Help with products I didn't declare
 

I had bought lots of things in Thailand- including a few antiques from Myanmar. When we were asked to declare what we had coming into Myanmar, the materials I'd read indicated electronics, and I honestly and truly took that literally and that's what I declared. It never dawned on me (flat forehead slap here) that I might just have an issue getting these things out of country once in.

Anyone have advice? I am leaving tomorrow., I have most receipts. Help requested immediately please. Thanks to all. Most of what I have are figures, no Buddhas, wood carvings, stuff like that.

You may or may not get asked about what you bought in Myanmar by the immigration people as you leave Myanmar. If you are, report accurately what you bought in Myanmar. If they even ask, they are unlikely to be interested in what you bought in Thailand. The only reason any of this might come up is if they were to look in your luggage.

The customs form you filled out upon entry really is looking for things you might re-sell in Myanmar, thus, electronics.

For many years I religiously completed the Customs declaration form listing everything of value,although not my phone as they were banned in early times.
Watch,rings,jewelry,video camera,electrics etc etc were all listed. I didn't bring my fax machine with me as their import was banned at the time (-:
Up until about 5 years ago I took the form to the desk after departures and was waived through without anything being checked. Since them I have NEVER seen the desk manned so I had a chat with a friendly Customs gent who told me that the main reason the form was there was for currency movements ($10,000++) and gem exportation and advised us that only high value jewelry ,with stones, or individual gems should be declared on entry so that it could be proven, on departure, that they were not purchased in Myanmar.He said there was also a concern of the export of genuine old antiques.

Thank both of you so very kindly. I've been worrying myself to death about this for no reason. I did go through my receipt envelops (okay okay I'm anal I admit it) and pulled out everything I had for my Thailand purchases that said Burma antiques.

I'll have them just in case but from what you said, sounds like I"m worrying for no reason.

However, I SHOULD be thinking about those excess baggage fees.....
