1. Any pitfalls for shipping puchases back to the states?

2. Tour guides for Saturday Kyoto trip? Only things I have found for tours are as follows: I had read in another forum that there were college students who gave tours and you just needed to cover entrance fees and meals. Unfortunately the poster had misplaced the email/web address. I also found out that I will miss the walking tour by Joe(?) because he does not work on Saturdays.

You are describing (I think) the Goodwill Guides, so search for that term and Kyoto and you will get info on those guides.

I think you are talking about Johnny Hillwalker's walking tour, which does not happen on weekends, just Mon., Wed, Fri.
