Thanks, gogreen! Everything is actually correct except we are going to the Pondicherry area instead of Cochin. I am really looking forward to India - three weeks from today till we leave!
Karen and Blip's reviews have been incredible and so helpful. Haven't even gotten there and I want to go back and see more!!
Any last minute suggestions? Food, shopping, sights to see, etc.
We will be in Delhi, Varanasi, Agra, Karauli, Ranthambhore, Jaipur, Pondicherry and Mahabalipurim.

Thanks, everyone, for your input.

Have a fantastic, fantastic trip, Lipgirl!!!! It will be like no trip you've done before!!

It is never perfectly and predictably smooth sailing in India..that is the nature of India!! There is always the unexpected, at some point or other! Sit back, relax, enjoy, "go with the flow" and take it all in, in wide-eyed wonder!!!! You will be in good hands, if our experince of Indianpanorama's long-haul drivers is anything to go by.

My daughter loved it. She had heard many "INDIA??!!! Why INDIA?" questions from friends who'd never been, that it made her experiences unexpectedly better, with frequent comments of, "Oh, i cant wait to tell them THIS is what it's really like"

I suspect your daughter will react similarly. What a wonderful gift from you to her.

Hi Everyone,

OK - we leave Monday - and living in New York I don't even want to say "barring any bad weather" because I am thinking positive!!

Any suggestions on where to get Ayurvedic treatments??? My daughter, who is in college, has to do a report on Ayurvedic medicine to fulfill work she will miss while away. I would also like to have the treatments, anyway! I am thinking while we are in Tamil Nadu - Pondicherry or Mahabalipuram. We are staying at Maison Perumal and Radisson Resort Temple Bay, respectively.
Anyone ideas at this late date will be appreciated. I will be checking in as I have service.
Thanks!!

iipgirl - Have a GREAT time! I'm so excited for you and can't wait to hear how it goes. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather in NY will be fine on Monday (it's supposed to be decent here in Maryland).

(Sorry I can't help with advice on Ayurvedic treatments.)

Have a masala chai for us!

Lipgirl, be prepared for lots of oil, and no modesty whatsoever--at least, that is how a typical village Ayurvedic tmt is done. My dtr had something like that and it was a bit unnerving. We usually made sure to get "Western style massage" (and the best we had every, anywhere, was in small place in Karnataka)

Have you asked Faith? She lives in Trichy,Tamil Nadu, so might know.

Most resorts (some use the word loosely) n which we we stayed --even the most "out of the way" ones--had some sort of massage service/ center. So i'd be surprised if Temple Bay doesn't. They'll give you a menu --of course l just chose the Ayurvedic or Kerala-style.

If you search "Pondicherry Ayurvedic Massage" i'm sure there will be some. You can ask at the hotel where you're staying. Trust me, they'll know someone reputable.

Did i "share" this story--of walking along in a village in HImachal with an elderly man who spoke quite good English. I casually mentioned that i had a headache. Next thing, he is guiding me to the local hair-dresser at the "ladies shop" who gave me a fantastic scalp massage which scared away the headache spirits. For another $1, she offered "full massage" but i didn't fancy oil in the heat.

above is for Ayurveda at Grt Temple Bay Radisson.

LOL re the fish massage!!

I would guess a ocal place in Pondy might be cheaper. The name-branded hotels usually charge more. Of course, you could try both, and compare!!! Wherever you go, check there is a hot shower you can use to rinse off all the excess oil.

So glad you and daughter had a fantastic trip to India, and came back in love with the country and its people. Also delighted--but not surprised--that you were happy with Faith and Indian Panorama.Bet you had some great driver--which adds so much.
