Help us plan our trip? Tips and things to do for Bangkok, Ao Nang and Koh Lanta.

Hello everyone,,

My Girlfriend and I will be in Thailand from 12th August-3rd Sept. It’ll be my boyfriend’s birthday on the 15th, and I was planning to be in Koh Lanta (he went once and loved it) by then to celebrate but was wondering if staying in Bangkok for only 2 days is too little? And whether we’re staying too long in Krabi?

What are some birthday worthy ideas for Koh Lanta? We like exploring, picture worthy sights, good local food (I heard the food was better in Bangkok?), shopping and just relaxing by the beach. We’re very not really into partying hard but we do like the occasional drink, what are the nightlife like for Koh Lanta vs Ao Nang? We will be renting a scooter we’ll be able to go to some hard to reach places. Should we stay for a couple days in Railay Beach or will a day trip and basing out of Ao Nang good enough? Insider tips for these places are also appreciated!

Only two days in Bangkok? That wouldn't be enough for me! Bangkok has the best cultural activities available and has amazing wats (Buddhist temples) and the best food. I'd spend more time in Bangkok and choose just two beach locations, so you don't waste a lot of time moving from one beach locale to another.

You plan to rent a scooter - are you certified for driving motorcycle at home? If not, I'd suggest that renting a scooter in SE Asia isn't the beat idea. The leading cause of death for both locals and visitors is motorcycle accidents.
