Help! Tipping at Borneo Rainforest Lodge
 

Half-way through our Borneo trip and full report to follow. But, we're here now at the BRL, leaving tomorrow and wondering about tipping the guide. Others in our guide group were confused as well. One theory is that because it's ecotourism, the premise is that they charge more (and this place is frightfully expensive) and pay the employees well, obviating the need for tips. Another is that any tip should be a general one for all the employees, rather than just for the guide—the "Gratuity Box" at the front desk that would seem to lend some support to that theory. Any thoughts from those of you who've been here on whether to tip and if so, how much?

Sorry, I don't remember what we tipped, though we did tip. You could ask someone who works there, maybe the manager.

PS I hope you are having a wonderful time. Cheryl and I were talking about our time at the BRL last night and saying we'll have to return.
