Help! Rainy day -Matsushima

Hi all,

I have a 7 days Japan Rail Pass activated from 16th September 2006. Had planned for Matsushima on 16th/17th starting from Tokyo. And the next 5 days trip from Tokyo till Miyajima via Kyoto.
But as per the weather forcast, since it is going to be rainy, not able to decide whether it would be worth going to Matsushima or not. Could someone advice me.. Or suggest any other place? Already been to Nikko, Hakone and Kamakura
Please help. Also since the reservation for Kyoto is done already, I cannot change the 5 day trip at this moment.

Thanks in advance.

I agree with hawaiiantraveler. Except, get the 300 yen umbrella since you are probably going to leave it on the train or boat.

But if you want to just head south, then you will avoid the backtracking involved with going from Tokyo to Sendai and back. Maybe make a stop at Magome or Tsumago and walk the Nakasendo. Leave Tokyo (Shinjuku) early and stop at Matsumoto to visit the castle, then go south down the Kiso Valley and spend the night. The next day would be a long one, tho, if you were to go all the way to Miyajima. Maybe this is not a good idea.

You could just head farther south, to Himeji as snowyjj suggests. And on to Hiroshima for the night. Sendai to Miyajima would make for a long day. But starting in Hiroshima would be much better. More time in Miyajima (or Hiroshima) could be well spent. Weather could be totally different down there, too.
