help on airfare routing,hongkong, shanghai and back to US
 

i am trying to find the correct airline to book an open jaw ticket from the US to go to hong kong then stop for 2 days in shanghai, and then back to the US. can anyone help me with the correct airline to get an open jaw ticket to stop in shanghai on the way back home.

Try Cathay Pacific. I know they have a special Asia Pass ticket where you can go to different cities and countries in Asia for under $1000.

You may want to get a travel agent specialized in Asian travel to find you the best fare on your date, but here are some airline choices you have:

- UA flies to Shanghai (PVG) non-stop from both Chicago (ORD) & San Francisco. They also fly to HKG from SFO & ORD; as well as a connection via Tokyo (NRT). Therefore, UA is the best choice if you want to stick with one airline, and have the fewest connections.

- Cathay Pacific has the most non-stops from N. America to HKG, departing from LAX, SFO and JFK. They don't fly to PVG, but their partner Dragonair of Hong Kong does. And their partner American Airlines code-share on all the CX flights to HKG, plus on China Eastern (MU) flights from N. America to Shanghai. So, it's possible to have all flights booked in AA flight numbers, even though you may be on AA, CX or MU.

- Northwest & the two Japanese airlines JAL and ANA all have extensive N. American flights, plus flights to both HKG and PVG. All three are therefore good possibilities, with a connection at NRT, of course.

The Cathay pass is an option but of course this means flying out of LA soif you don't live in LA you will need to fly to LA. What frequest flyer program are you on/ This will factor into your decision as its close to 15,000 miles round trip.

Cathay's "All-Asia" pass is not a good option, as Shanghai is not one of the included cities, but an optional add-on. For 2004, the extra cost is US$414. It'd be much cheaper to buy seperate US-HKG and HKG-PVG tickets.

Since CX doesn't fly to PVG, but put you on DragonAir, I doubt this extra cost will change for 2005.
