HELP! Me get to Thailand!

Hey everyone. I'm planning on going to Thailand for about 4-5 weeks.

I'm flexible though. I want to leave around the beginning of September and be gone 4 or 5 weeks.

I live in Detroit, MI. (DTW). But I am willing to go to other airports, even JFK to get to Thailand.

Can SOMEONE help me find the best airfare available??? I'll send you a framed picture from Thailand (one of my own- I'm a photographer) if I use your cheap airfare!!!! (And if you even want the photograph.)

Thanks SO MUCH.

one really good deal now is air canada...take a look at them...anything less than $1000 would be good...

i got a flash from travelocity yesterday for bkk on northwest for $690...i tried but could not come up with anything...give them a call as detroit is a direct link through tokyo to bkk...
don't dally becasue you are already close to the 21 day advance purchase price break..

try a consolidator...be flexible...

better to call the airlines and pay the $15 fee imo...

also look at united....also ANA....japan is a favorite as is malaysian air...emerites and eva air are two good choices as well...

beware of connecting fees from detroit to ny/newark however which may drive up the price...

In the past years, I've noted that even though Detroit is a NW hub, the prices were higher flying from Detroit to BKK than from Boston to BKK. This was true even though Bos-BKK flew through Detroit. Last year we found it was cheaper to fly Det-ORD-BKK on United than Det-BKK on NW. Check Sidestep.com for a list of fares.

i avoid chicago like the plague especially when flying...

tsk tsk Bob... why do you avoid Chicago like the plague? You are going to offend some great people here, even ME (and I don't live in that part of the state).
I went to Chicago yesterday and had a great time. I dropped off my BIL and his wife for their ORD to HNL trip. Traffic was a real joy at 8am, but other than that, things were quite acceptable.

And to the original poster, check sites like travelocity because they will have options for some pretty good prices, IMHO.

I am not offended by Bob. However, as United Mileage Plus members who live on the east coast, my wife and I have flown through Chicago many, many times and NEVER had a problem. I don't think Bob was putting down the city (why would he?) but I'm sure he'll chime in...

The thing I would avoid like the plague is Northwest Airlines. Flying them to asia is the worst!

If you're willing to go to JFK you could check out Thai Air which flies nonstop. Other good choices from other cities would be ANA, Japan and Malaysia (a fabulous airline that often has excellent rates). Just avoid NW-- they should pay YOU to fly them.

its not of course chicago...its ORD, its delays and its extreme weather...after being stuck many many times we do not have it on our radar...

gloria....i can speak about N/W solely as it is the only carrier i have used...we have no complaints save one...they run on time, run at good hours basically (although i do not like the 6AM bkk departure but united is 7, so what's the difference)...their hub in narita is smooth and efficient and the terminal is really really nice since its renovations last year....i find the staff as good as any US carrier...the food from US ports is edible in coach, but not from asian ports....i know gloria that you like japan but it does not work for me...
our one complaint happened in june when we were not told our plane from detroit had been cancelled and that we had a 5 hour delay...it made a long day a very long day...they called our home and left a message...hello---we have been on your planes since 6 AM asia time....

we prefer the 747 for long halls especially the double seats in rows 63-67 in the back so try to avoid the new airbusses for longer flights, although the airbus is a much nicer plane...

And my complaint is I flew NW to bangkok three times (the last time was 1996)and all three times I was between 5 and 24 hours late. All three times they ran out of various drinks and in one instance didn't have enough food to feed everyone. And alL three times the bathrooms were filthy. And one time my seat was broken but because the flight was full I was stuck in it. They refused to move me into their empty first class. That was what finished me.I figure three strikes and you're out for me.

Basically I try hard to fly on asian carriers. I just find the service makes all the difference. But I absolutely refuse to fly NW.

Oh-- I forgot. They also lost my luggage and didn't get it to me for 5 days (fortunately it was on the trip coming home)
