Help! ...guide needed Taipai March 2010
My husband and I are traveling on a Southeast Asia cruise and will stop in Taiwan for one day. We would like recommendations for an English speaking guide/driver who could pick us up at the ship. Also any recommendations as to how to spend our time that day would be appreciated. (Looks like there's a possibility we may be there on a rainy day) Thanks in advance.

Get an umbrella

Again, no guide needed.
The place in Taipei that is "must-see" is the National Museum. Expect to spend a half day there, more if you are especially interested in Chinese arts. |
Thanks...will a rain poncho do?????

you will fit right in with the poncho. Many locals wear these as they're riding their scooters down the streets

Edison Tours would be able to arrange a day tour for you, if that is your wish. The national palace museum offers English language tours every day at 10:00 and 3:00, so no need for a guide. They have a nice tea shop on the fourth floor and a lovely restaurant just steps from the front door called Silks.
Nearly across the street from the NPM is a very nice museum devoted to Taiwans aboriginal peoples. Eat at Ding Tai Feng )there are several branches) if you can -- the most famous soup dumplings in Taipei. If you have more time, the Long Shan Temple is well worth a stop. Enjoy -- I:m an American who has been living in Taiwan for the past four years and I love it. |
Edison was one who picked us at the ship and took us to the city. We too went to Din Tai Fung. It was an excellent afternoon and evening.

Thanks jgmc and emdee....I may contact Edison Tours...do either of you have contact information? But, will it be easy enough to navigate from the port to the Nationl Palace Museum by taxi?
