Help! Diapers in Kyoto?
Hi, we are in the middle of a 16-day trip with our 6 month old daughter. Everything has gone pretty well, but we are out of diapers! We looked for them in Tokyo and were told, "Low birth rate, no diapers here." We thought we could find some in Kyoto but have been to two grocery stores, and nothing. We've asked the hotel desk for help and they don't have much advice.
Hopefully someone can point us in the right direction! |
Nonsense...low birth rate no diapers!?! They are available in supermarkets, drug stores, convenience stores. Diapers might not be the word the person you ask knows...ask for omutsu. Available in many sizes and brands, no problem. Try again, because they are there, really.

Holler if you need more help- they're everywhere as Kim says.

Honestly, we have looked and looked. They were not in any grocery store nor in any convenience store that we could find. We didn't say "diaper" - we showed them an actual diaper so there would be no misunderstanding.
Luckily, we just went out to the Moss Temple and I found some out in that area. I stopped in two grocery stores and no diapers! But I stopped in a few convenience stores and they had some, so I bought a bunch! Thanks again - hopefully we should be OK for the rest of the trip! |
I'm amazed . . . but then again, there really aren't a lot of real drugstores on the tourist routes, I suppose. I wish you luck in finding some the next time you are out.
