Help...Airfare....from Guenmai
Folks, I need your help on this one. I'm thinking of surprising my mom and taking her to Sinagpore and Bangkok in April. I have the reservations in the computer at both Delta and Singapore Air.I'll give her my free Delta frequent flyer ticket, which is booked on a Singapore Air flight ...then I'll buy my own ticket on Singapore Air so that I can get the frequent flyer miles. I need two, one-way tickets from Singapore-Bangkok for April 13th. I have tried the internet for Singapore Air and Thai Air and the one-way airfare is ridiculously high...at over $400, per ticket. I paid $179 for the same ticket just last month. Because my mom's ticket is on a frequent flyer award,Singapore Air will only put her on the 6PM flight out of Singapore and into Bangkok around 8:25PM which ruins the whole day. We'll only have a total of 3 days in BK, instead of the 4 planned, since Singapore Air wouldn't put her on a flight so that we could have an extra day. They're difficult to deal with when it comes to issuing free tickets to passengers who have their frequent flyer miles in other airline accounts within the Star Alliance. So, I thought I'd just buy two inexpensive tickets between Singapore and Bangkok so that we could depart around noon and get into BK around 2:30PM and have more time in Bangkok. So, do you know of any other airlines that fly this route and for less money? Delta will only hold my mom's ticket until the 20th of this month and then it will be deleted out of the system. It took over an hour,on the phone with Delta today, to set up that one ticket, so I don't want to lose it! Thanks!

guenmai; can't you get an open jaw tkt from lax to sin, buy a cheap one way tkt from sin-bkk, then from bkk to lax via nrt?. i saw one way tkt from sin to bkk for around $40. try tiger air or air asia.
i rec. the non-stop, i think its sq 19, from lax to sin. great flt, nice big seats in economy, you get there around 5am. you are such a sweetie, just like florence, to take your mom on a nice trip. |
Air Asia flies between Singapore and Bangkok but won't allow you to reserve that far in advance. I saw that April 13 is a Thurs so I put in a one way from SIN-BKK for Oct 13, also a Thursday and came back with a flight costing S$91.99 (about US$54)that would get to BKK at 12:15. It depends on whether you want to take a chance and wait to reserve.
You could also try this site which has flights for about THB5000 (US$125) each way. http://saveflights.com/ They have many flights on different airlines, some costing more and some less. They don't give the times though, I guess you would have to contact them for that or pick and airline from the list and check their schedule. |
you could ask eddie at sea tours for [email protected]
one trick to cheaper flights from sin is to go across the bridge into malaysia and fly from JB there....you can save quite a bit... |
VALUE AIR is a full servise budget airline. it is a bit more expesive then airasia and tiger airways. (singaore airlines budget carier) but they offer meals and allow more luggege.
Value air was recently ranked among the best airlines in asia. check what finn air, and scandinavion are offering they tend to offer some good prices between bkk and sin... |
ttt for the person who asked same question

We're all on the ball tongiht!
guenmai, just did this, that's right, USD 89 was Tiger for October, Valuair was USD 135, but as Orgy said valuair is a better airline, but both bargains. If you try to book now on the majors you will see the crazy rates, you need to wait until usually 90 days ahead to book the cheapest on the budget carriers and the major airlines seem to start dropping the fares between 1 and 2 months ahead, I would sit back and relax and re-look Jan/Feb time, there are also Swiss, Turkish and Finnair etc who do the BKK-SIN sector as continuation of their inbound Europe flights so always lots of seats on the sector, if you think anything from around USD 90-150 retrun you can relax. |
Thanks folks...Bob, I can't go over to Malaysia. That's way too much movement for my mom. Maybe I'll try contacting Eddie. Delta and Singapore Air said they'd give me until the 30th of this month, instead of the 20th to figure this all out. Then after that, both tickets will be deleted out of the system and the chances of getting anything...using an award...will be slim to none. When I get the time to call Delta again...and waste 15 minutes listening to that electronic robot, before being put on hold another 15+ minutes while waiting for a real person...then I'll ask them if I can just book the ticket WITH the 6PM flight so that we at least have a flight and then if I find something later with a more convenient flight time, just buy a separate ticket and not fly the 6PM segment of the ticket. I know that with some airlines if you don't fly one of the ticketed segments, then your whole ticket becomes null and void. That's the last nightmare I would need. I just know that this all has to be figured out by the end of this month. And I don't know if I want to chance booking the ticket without the 6PM Singapore to Bangkok segment. Happy Travels!

Kuranosuke...The tickets that I have reserved are for the non-stop flight that you're talking about.I'm trying to make my mom as comfortable as possible. That flight has only two classes...and I was told the seats are very big and comfortable. It leaves around 9:30PM and arrives Singapore at around 6:55AM. Coming home we will have to stop in Taipai, though.I've never stopped there before. About the open jaw ticket. If flying on Singapore Air, we have to go back to Singapore before flying back to L.A. I would much rather prefer L.A.-Singapore-Bangkok-L.A., but they said,No Way!. Maybe it's because it's a free ticket...I don't know. So, now another day is wasted having to go back to Singapore. Happy Travels!

geunmia, don't know why sq is playing hard ball with you, unless its because you are using dl miles(did you book thru dl or sq?). last year, using ua miles, i went from lax to sin on sq 19. (btw, yes, its a two class flt, bus and exec econ. excellent seats in ee, and the flt usually arrives between 5-530am). then, i returned to hi on ua from bkk.
this nov. i will again use my ua miles and go from hi to sin on ana. then ta from bkk to nrt, then ua back to hi. |
