Hello Carol

Hi Carol,

I've seen some of your post where you are quite high on the Adelphi suites. Do you still feel they are a good choice? I have also checked the Center Point. Which would you consider best.

many thanks for all your advice. It is very much appreciated.

I'm absolutely still high on the Adelphi. I'll be staying there for nearly a month during Dec/Jan time period. For me, this location works better than Centre Point. Mind you, I've never stayed at Centre Point. Some on this board have, and they like the fact that it is located by the river.

Adelphi is much closer to shopping, plus I have friends in the Sukhumvit area. I also like that Adelphi is only about one minute from the skytrain escalator UP. (it can get tiring going up the stairs in the heat... lol)

Depends on whether you want a "river" or a "city" location during your stay.

thank you Carol, as always, your input and educated opinions is so very much appreciated!!

Guenmai Oct 23rd, 2008 07:34 AM

I've never stayed in Centre Point, but got a walk through of it a couple of trips ago, and as far as location, I'd pick the Adelphi, too. I've stayed in that Centre Point area before.

For some years of trips, I've been staying in a serviced apartment building in Sukhumvit and would definitely pick that area over the Centre Point area...much more going on. Happy Travels!

I'm not Carol, but thanks to her advice, we are staying at the Adelphi for the month of January '09. Last year we stayed at the Suwan Park View at the Chidlohm BTS, and it was good also.

However, we really enjoy being in the midst of Sukhumvit area -- and the Adelphi is VERY close to the BTS.

The way it is going -- I have read of other Fodorites who will be at the Adelphi in Dec/Jan -- we may all have to wear a yellow flower so we will know each other.

Hope your visit to BKK is as wonderful as all of ours have been.

Sandra
I'll be at Adelphi until January 7. Maybe we'll meet up! Will you be there the first week of January?

Speaking of 'Hello Carol'...are we going to try and have a mini-GTG in BKK the night of December 19th? Us, Carol + Brad, Khun Hanuman + family and possibly our beloved Guen??

A nice dinner or drinks out would be wonderful! I've never had the chance to reunite with Fodorites outside the States, so this would be a blast!

Since we're creeping up on the date, should we start planning for it? I'm hoping so!

simpsonc510 Oct 24th, 2008 07:05 AM

Wow... glad the site is up and working again. I tried posting a number of times earlier today and could not get "in"...

Yes, filmwill, I agree that a GTG is certainly in order. Dec 19 is a good date for me. I will have arrived late late late the night before, so will no doubt be jetlagged. Probably a late afternoon GTG for cocktails and/or wine might be better than dinner, as I'll probably "crash" around 7... lol

Let's do plan something. Maybe we should start a new thread. I'll do that, and I'll ask for suggestions for a place.

Carol: It would be great to meet you and other Fodorites who will be in BKK for the holidays, but --------- we don't leave Texas until January 8, arriving in BKK on the 10th.

Looks like we will have to coordinate our visits on another trip.

Have a wonderful time -- is there any other kind in BKK?

Sandra
So sorry we won't connect this time. I was looking forward to putting another name/face together. Maybe another time...

Sandra
I forgot to ask you if you got the longterm rate at Adelphi? We got 4 weeks for 62,000 baht, but that does not include breakfast. That's OK... I can eat my coffee, cereal, yogurt and fruit in the room! DH can cook his oatmeal. We'll be just fine.

Carol -- what a great idea! Too bad it won't work for us this trip, as we are leaving after a week and going to CM for several days before returning to the Adelphi on the 18th. Then we will stay in one place until February 2. This last holds true only if we can't get reservations somewhere nice in Phuket. DH thinks this would be a nice side trip for a couple of days.

We are seeing Tong Jan 12-14 and then spending time at Bumrungrad for our dental checkups, etc.

Next time let's coordinate.

Sandra,

We are actually leaving Adelphi for a couple of days ourselves. We're going to Pattaya for New Years Eve and Jan 1. I booked the Pattaya Marriott using points, so it's free. I hate paying for two different rooms.. lol

Hope we can coordinate trips sometime soon.

Carol

Should have added that we're not checking out of our apartment at Adelphi. We'll just pack up our little bags with what we'll need for Pattaya and leave everything else in the closets ad Adelphi.

This is what we usually would do when we stayed at Pathumwan House, which is yet another serviced apartment building, but close to MBK mall (and lots cheaper, but very basic and clean as a whistle).
