Btw, We arrived last night and went straight to Silom and Soi Convent after dropping our things off. Ate like crazy, bought a few things on the Patpong side, came back home at 3am, got to bed at 4am, lol. Felt good today until I overate and then the jet lag sucker punched me! Talk soon

Mang: are you staying at the Banyan Tree again? Just in case The Really Strange Thing happens and you can't find the bathroom again , here are your instructions.

I'll assume you've found the bed. From the prone position you have three options. Those sliding doors in front of you - no. They just lead you back into your living room. Do not go there and, whatever happens, do not open any doors you see. They will lead you into the corridor - there may be little old ladies passing by and they will die if they see you in your underpants.

The second option is very attractive indeed - lots of twinkling lights and tall buildings. You can try and find the bathroom through there but you may walk into a sheet of glass. It's the window.

There is only one place left to go. See that mysterious door just by the foot of the bed? Open that and all will be revealed.

Inside there are four options. One is a shower. Don't go there. The other three are white and porcelain, so you may get confused. One is the hand basin. Despite all logic, don't go there. One is the bath. Don't go there. One is an odd shaped thing that may have a flat white hat on. Lift that hat. If there is water inside - you've found what you are looking for.

This is a public service announcement.

LOL, Dogster. You know the BT rooms by heart. Btw, I decided on option #7: Keep pee bottle bedside. Hard to lose with this option unless I become disoriented(no pun) and thirsty simultaneously, lol.

Good to "see" you, btw..Its been a while. Where the heck are you? Hope India's looked kindly upon you. We just returned from the Victory Monument market tonight for the first time. What a stinking dump!! Right on the Saen saep klong

Forgot to add that it is quite HOT here despite what people would assume for this time of year. I have to shower every time we come back to the room! We continue to eat with spectacular frequency!!

Btw, Sorry Carol- don't meant to hijack your thread!

Sawasdee kah, from the Adelphi, soi 8. Yes, I'm here. I arrived just hours ago, on UA 881. Managed to get some sleep on my flight so that I could get that second wind upon arrival and go see Maeng, which I did. DS was also at the PL. DH was at the apartment, in his jammies, ready to sleep by the time I arrived there(at nearly 1am) so I said hello and just let him sleep while I went to PL to say hello to friends there. I love to see Maeng's big smile when I walk in the door!

Anyway, it was 82 degrees when I landed. Very tolerable. I look forward to the heat of the daytime in a few hours. I hope I don't end up sweating, but probably not. I can stand the heat lots better than the 5 degree temps at home!!!

I tried to sleep at about 2:30am, but no luck, so I'm up at 5am looking at my emails and checking in here. I'm sure I'll sleep better tonight, after a day of shopping in BKK, topped off with a nice Via Vai pizza and chianti with DH.

Karen, I'll be buying more of the cute little animal purses in Chiang Mai (probably on Tuesday), and who knows what else I will find in the markets there. And then there are the scarves. Big deal in the US right now. Everyone seems to love scarves! That is what will occupy a good portion of the space in my suitcases this time. But I also want to try to find a pair of comfortable sparkly slip on shoes. A pair that looks dressy with cocktail pants/glittery top. I will need them for a wedding I hope to attend in Sydney in March. The reception is cocktail attire. I've got the black satin pants and sparkly top. Just need shoes that look OK and would be comfortable. I don't do heels.

Mango, I'll be having coffee and caprese salad at the Monsoon Restaurant at my apartment building on Sunday afternoon, probably sitting outside, if you care to stop by. I'd say 3:00ish. DS may or may not be with me. DH will probably be playing pool somewhere. Hope to get to say hello! No formal fodors GTG... up to you.

Dogster, where are you? Are you in BKK??? Hope you are feeling much better after your dealings in India! I think you had some of us worried about you here. Stop by Sunday afternoon and have a coffee or cold beer with mango and me at the Adelphi on soi 8. You can't remain a mystery man forever.

My suitcases are staring at me. They are still full. I need to unpack them so I have clean clothes and my toothbrush!!

The sun isn't yet up in BKK. It's nearly 6am now. I'm not sleepy in the least..... BKK awaits!

Carol

(Bob... whose post has PJ in it? I'm still looking for it)

hey mangs, during my stay in bangkok last month, i got to be familiar with soi convent. which restaurant did you go to, to get real thai food? the mexican restaurant, or the japanese restaurant, or the irish pub, or the italian pizza place, or the sushi restaurant, or maybe the street stalls?

the street stalls were always busy, and the food looked delicious.

Carol, PJ is Perrier Jouet.

See if Maeng knows Soi Phat Sai in Chinatown. Lots of sparkly shoes there.

Thanks for the PJ info, Michael. I was baffled by that one. I'll have to ask Maeng about that soi in Chinatown. Might have to check it out. But do they have larger western shoe sizes there??

mango, I'll be at Pickled Liver many times in the next few weeks. Maybe I'll see you there.

Ken... lol.... so much for Thai food, unless you buy from street vendors, that is. haha

I don't know what today's high temp was, but it wasn't bad. No sweating for me, mango. How 'bout you?

I exchanged currency at VASU at 33.17. I noted rates around 32.80 at a couple of walk-up bank exchange places that I passed by.

I got my 20-ride BTS card for 470 baht and used a couple of rides going to MBK for a look around. I was looking for "new" and interesting items but didn't really see anything yet. I'll go back when I'm not jetlagged. Maybe I'll be alert enough to spot something!

Lunch was a caprese salad and coffee at Monsoon, in the lobby of my apartment hotel. Excellent salad, nice presentation too. Brad came and joined me and had a chicken dish. He said it was good. DH had a couple of appts at Bumrungrad today, so he grabbed lunch over there.

We all met up with Dr Jack and our Danish friend and had a nice visit with them. When I was getting so tired I could hardly keep my eyes open, I opted to go see Maeng and have her cook a light dinner for me. She made a shrimp with vegetables and white rice that was delicious. Just right! Not too heavy... I hate going to bed on a really full stomach!

I'm heading out to the weekend market in the morning, and Maeng will catch up with me out there. I won't get lost if I stick to our usual route around the market ... haha

My eyes are trying to close as I type. I really must get some sleep now.

Enjoy your day!

Carol

We could use some of your heat here right now ...10 degrees and add the windchill it is 0. I'd rather be sweating!! We did the lunch special at Via Vai...good deal for the money, and quite a nice salad bar. Try it.

Yup, I'm here. I have been for a week and I'm not leaving until I'm 100% recovered. I'm in the perfect place and returning rapidly to health. You were right to be worried - I sure was. India nearly killed me this time. Tomorrow - contact.

Mang: I'm not sure the Banyan Tree will respond if I call and ask for Mr. Mango. You have to give me a clue.

It's 10.10 p.m. There's the most enormous concert going on right outside my window. I have to go and see.
