Heading to Bangkok in four weeks - snakes! yikes!
|
The photos are pretty alarming. But in my two to three dozen trips to Bangkok I've never seen a snake in the city.

I haven't run into any snakes in Bangkok over the 19 years of going there regularly. But, there are plenty lizards of all sizes. I stay walking distance from Lumpini Park.
I am one who detests reptiles and rodents and have heard that there are also plenty rodents in Bangkok. I haven't come face-to-face with any rodents, but know folks who have and have been told that they are big. I have just had to deal with the lizards, but not the size of the monitor in Lumpini Park although a friend, ran into a monitor, on his first trip to Bangkok when he was there at the same time I was there. The day after it had happened, he dropped by my place and was telling me about it and how he had a "Yikes" moment. I've dealt with the tokays from time to time which are some bad boys. https://bangkokherps.wordpress.com/2...ds-of-lumpani/ Happy Travels! |
Anywhere you have people, you have rats and anywhere you have rats there will be snakes.
Without them cities and towns would be overrun with rodents. However they are well aware of the dangers of coming out into the open in front of humans and don't normally do this. It may be that changing water levels due to development have actually forced snakes into more densely human inhabited areas too. |
