Have you seen this?

Interesting data! Thanks for pointing it out.

funny but it seems the top ten posters, posted around 20% of the lounges' posts which is almost three times more total than all Asian posts for one week. amazing......this on a travel site.
|
Very interesting. Thanks for the link.

Two of our regulars Filmwill and Lcuy were banned after venturing into the lounge. It's a dangerous place. Do not go there without adult supervision.

I guess it means some travelers just can 't get away from arguing about politics. Give me the Asia board any day.
|
Yes ht, amazing - you'd have a hard time figuring out this was a travel board! I thought I spent too much time here (Europe, Asia, Smart Travel) - no way I could handle the Lounge as well.

Very interesting! Thanks for the link. Do you suppose it's updated every week? Carol |
I'm with you Kathie!
Carol, I think it's updated daily |
Very interesting, Mahalo!

I am flabbergasted that anyone can post at the rate of 20-30 posts/day <i>on average.</i>
Is there life <s>after</s> besides Fodors? ((*)) |
I posted a relatively long post on a similar thread in the lounge... thought I'd repost some of it here.
"At a quick glance, it seems their overall stats are off---which I assume is probably due to our Forums current set up. We have almost a million threads on the forums---we're in the process of actually transferring all of these threads (stretching back to 1996!) to our new forums platform. Talk about heavy lifting! We have a stats tool here and I look at the numbers on a regular basis. The lounge does receive many posts--but this makes sense when one considers that everything in the world is talked about here; the lounge really is a bit of a chat room. Some posters post multiple times on a single thread---it's easy to share a recipe or comment on something someone saw on tv, but I understand that people may not post with the same frequency to a question asked by someone trying to plan a trip. They're two different animals. When considering adding a formal "off-topic" area, we did take a good look around the web to see if other communities included a "lounge" section for members. Many did and in many of the cases we saw these sections were very popular. I thought it was odd too at the time---but now I realize that these areas can feel like "base" for some regulars and create opportunities for meeting other travelers that largely stick to other destination-specific forums. As someone that spends a large amount of time on the Forums, I personally feel that the Lounge brings some people to the Forums on a more regular basis---increasing the likelihood that they'll also check out what's going on in their favorite destination-specific forum (Europe, Asia, etc.) In turn, members posting there benefit. The quality of postings in the other forums continues to be excellent. I have full faith that those people I meet in "real life" and direct to the Forums will receive quick, helpful, and informed advice. And they do! Some of them of course don't post---but I later come to find out they've printed several trip reports and created a file of info for their trip." |
For what it's worth.....I think the lounge hugely detracts from what I want from a travel forum.....(which is what attracts me here).
There are many 'chat rooms' and general discussion forums on the web...(most of which are far superior to Fodors Lounge), but I visit here mainly because I want to be inspired and enlightened about world-wide travel. And that's exactly what I find on the Asia board. I want to gush enthusiasm about my positive experiences and I want to blast away about the 'not so good'. I want to be inspired to try something different and to be informed about the travel experiences of others. I want to be nudged into some new travel experiences from the travels of others....The lounge for me is...a pain. The logo goes.......FODOR'S.....FOR CHOICE TRAVEL EXPERIENCES !! Well that's what I love about the Asia forum (and the Europe forum, etc.) too.
The lounge also gave us a place to move off-topic threads. Pre-lounge days the other forums often had many not so travel related threads. |
