Have vuisited Bali 3 times, now what"

Over the past 18 -19 years we have toured Bali 3 times with a guide and seen much of the island from the volcanos, lakes, Syminak, Sanur, volcano and lake region, Legion , Ubud, Sidman and West and north Bali, Monket Forest (wish we had not gone) white water rafting, etc.
We have a last day after being out in the Raja Ampat Islands and will be staying near the airport but do see no need to sit in the room and read. We might consider spending an hour buying high quakity trinkets for grandchildren, etc but we have an entire day with our guide Putu. We ourselves are not big shoppers except for genuine antiques but they are not relly available or are fakes. Do you have suggestions of how we could spend 5-6 hours hopfully not jammed in traffif half the time.?

"ttt" means to the top. Stan, Karen was topping your thread in the hope you would get a response. She was actually trying to do something nice for you.

Are you interested in dance performances? We have attended a number in Bali. You might also just ask Putu what he would recommend, given what you have seen.

There are not a lot of major attractions in south Bali -- except the beach and by extension beach culture. Ulu Watu is within the time frame but that's a lot of car time and (I think) of moderate interest.

If I had 5-6 hours to fill up near the airport, I'd probably have a meal and a spa treatment, do some shopping. Depending on the time of day take a walk on the beach.

So my suggestion: retain a taxi for the whole time. Ask the driver to wait for you with the meter running. The cost would be about USD40 to 50, maybe less.

For shopping, drive slowly along Jl Seminyak and stop when you see a place of interest. There are some nice choices for handicrafts (though not as many as Ubud). For tourist-y knickknacks, go to Jl Double 6.

If it's daytime then I'd have lunch on the beach at La Lucciola. It's open all day. Again if it's not too hot and low-ish tide take a walk on the beach around Petitenget temple (next to La Lucciola). There are usually temple ceremonies going on on the beach.

Then I'd head over to Body Works (about 5 minutes from Petitenget Temple) and have one of their treatments -- massage, scrub, manicure, facial.

If you still have time left go to Biku (about 5 minutes driving) for tea/coffee and a fabulous dessert. There are some nice handicraft shops near Biku, but it's difficult to walk, so explore in the taxi.

kATHIE; i SUPPOSE i MISS-UNDERSTOOD kAREN. i had seen TTT but her it lookded like a dig> i am sorry for that>
we have 9:30-2:45 FOR A 4:30 FLIGHT, AND kATHIE YOUR SUGGESTIONS ARE VERY HELPFUL. WE HAVE AWAYS BASED OURSELFVES IN UBUD AND NOT THE AIRPORT.WE HAVE PUTU FOR THE DAY BUT KNOWING HE MIGHT TAKE US SHOPPING ONLY WE WERE LOOKING FOR THAT AND SOMETHING ELSE. I THINK A MESSAGE DOES IT. ANY SUGGESTIONS. IS BODY WORKS EXPENSIVE?

marmot Oct 15th, 2012 02:45 PM

No, Body Works is quite reasonable. Semara Spa is also nice.

Shopping in Kuta/Legian/Seminyak/Petitenget is mostly apparel -- clothing, shoes, bags -- and contemporary homewares. I would avoid the huge tourist souvenir emporiums (called Oleh-Oleh) along the airport road.

Kerobokan which in just north of Petitenget, inland is the design, decorating and antique center for south Bali. There are dozens of shops that are fun to explore.

La Lucciola is beautiful in the morning for late breakfast or early lunch. I'd start there. Both Semara and BodyWorks are very close.

You will run into traffic in the late afternoon, because there is construction on the road and at the airport. I'd allow 2.5 hours from Seminyak to the airport.
