Thanks folks for the well wishes. Thai Air hasn't called me yet, and I was just too busy to call them this weekend. Happy Travels!
|
Guess what? Their ad on WSJ has switched to their "new" LAX-BKK non-stop service today!

I posted a carry-on bag question on the airlines forum. No answers so far, but wondered if you had heard anything about several of the major airlines downsizing the sizes of carry-on bags? I don't carry on anything larger than my computer tote, but the idea of requiring smaller carry-ons sounds good to me. (sorry for those of you who carry everything but the kitchen sink) Maybe you can take a look at my question on the airlines forum. Carol |
carol - Let me reply to you on your thread.
|
I hope the 22-inch, carry-on suitcases are still allowed because in that suitcase I pack what I need for survival in case my main suitcase is lost and I'm gone for 3 weeks.
I can write a book on lost luggage. I've had luggage lost for as long as nearly 3 weeks...not on Thai Air however. Happy Travels! |
I tried to call Thai Air yesterday, Saturday, and they were closed. I thought that they had half day hours on Saturdays, but maybe that has changed. Happy Travels!
|
FYI, the planes now used on the BKK - LAX route are B777 - NOT A340's. I checked when I made my booking. I think Thai is currently trying to offload the A340's because they're real gas-guzzlers.
|
TG doesn't have any 777-200LR, which will be the only Boeing capable of doing LAX-BKK non-stop.
The non-stop flights remain 340-500. |
Yup, the planes on the nonstop are now and will continue to be A340-500s, not 777-200ERs (through January, at least.)
Thai couldn't sell the former, so they are holding on to them. |
THERE ARE NO THAI NON-STOP FLIGHTS TO THE US. The only flight available for BKK - LAX stops in Japan, and it uses a B777. I'm absolutely positive about this.
|
Michael - Why don't you check some sources like thaiairways.com, itasoftware.com, etc. TG794/795 BKK-LAX is currently 5 days a week (no flights Mon and Wed), non-stop on the 345.
BKK-JFK was indeed cancelled. |
I always deal directly with Thai. The direct flight to LAX has been canceled, effective Oct. 31. It is no more. I'm traveling to the US on 6 November, and the only flight available on any day is a one-stop flight using a B777.
|
Michael - The non-stop was cancelled, but it had been restored. Which is why filmwill bumped this thread up on 10/10/08.
And like I said, just yesterday, I saw Thai's "new" ad about their "new" non-stop LAX-BKK flights in the newspaper. A week ago, they were still advertising for their "then-new" LAX-KIX service. |
SCREAM!!!! Sorry, just releasing tension. Happy Travels!
|
Michael, rkkwan is correct. I'm afraid you're mistaken. Yes, the nonstop was originally schedule to be moved to a 1-stop at KIX starting 10/26, but last week, Thai relented and kept the nonstop through January. I've already received my reconfirmation on TG795/794 (which was supposed to be TG796/797) from both Thai Air and United.
If you call Thai Air (or check any other air-related message boards, e.g., FlyerTalk, A.net), I think you'll find additional confirmation on that. |
Michael, I suggest you check your reservations again. You will see that they have been changed back to TG 794/795. And if you had seat assignments, most likely those have been changed to.
It's a good thing you stumbled on to this post. Otherwise you would have shown up 12 hours early for your flight to LAX. www.checkmytrip.com |
Yup, color me clueless. There's been absolutely no announcement of this change, but Thai just called me to say my flights have been changed. While it's nice to have a direct flight, I now have to change my connecting flights on United, which you can't do on-line (and which I'm sure will cost money), and I have to reserve a hotel at LAX for the night, since I'll clear customs way too late to get a flight to Portland.
As Guen says, SCREAM!!! |
This is all just too unbelieveable! I was so looking forward to "someday" taking that non-stop from LAX to BKK on Thai business class (or royal silk, or whatever the name). Sounds like it isn't gonna' happen.
Good luck to all of you who are attempting to take this journey in the near future... I hope it all works out. So, guenmai, are you now in premium economy or in business class????? Carol |
Carol..I have NO idea if they even have me still on the plane. They haven't called and I've been too busy with other stuff like going off on my cable/phone/internet service which is a FAR worse situation than the Thai Air situation. I'll have to spend a good hour and a half drafting a letter to them. It's just one battle after the other and I'm SICK OF IT. Plus, I need to fly all the way to my dad, this weekend, for a day and a half and then home and back to work the next day.
I was on the phone with the cable/phone/internet people over half an hour last night and then after furiously hanging up, checked the forum,to relax only to find more on this Thai Air situation. That's when I typed the "Scream". Happy Travels! |
The flight is non-stop again, and Premium Economy is available - I booked it last week for LAX-BKK-LAX in December (and saved $1000 over what EVA wanted for their Elite Class!).
So the aircraft is the A340-500, with 3 classes of seating. At least for today... |
I hope they're putting those of us who bought our Premier Economy tickets long ago...like mine in Feb 2008...back into Premier Economy before selling tickets to folks who are just buying them. I still haven't heard from Thai Air and I absolutely won't have time to even attempt to call them until sometime at the end of next week. I can only do so much in the course of a day and I'm already stressed beyond the limit. Happy Travels!
|
Oh, I forgot to say that I got a call, on my answering machine, from Thai Air to say that they were going back to the old, non-stop, schedule and that I would no longer be in Business Class on the L.A.-Osaka-BK route since I'm now back in Premium Economy on the non-stop route. I didn't realize that I had finally been upgraded to Business Class.
I just hope that this is the LAST of it! Happy Travels! |
good vibes to you guenmai.:-)
|
Thanks, Kuranosuke. Happy Travels!

today they have decided to cancel all further flights from LA and to reinstate the nyc flight....
oh sorry that is a joke.... |
"Author: rhkkmk
Date: 10/29/2008, 01:45 pm today they have decided to cancel all further flights from LA and to reinstate the nyc flight...." Is this a joke or are you serious? I don't see the JFK flight listed on the Thai website. |
vikinggirl, scroll down to the bottom of his message and you'll see:
"oh sorry that is a joke...." Bob's got a twisted sense of humor. We love him and empathize with him...kind of like a mentally-challenged poster child. |
see what you've done, bob. lol.
|
He doesn't qualify to be mentally-challenged. He's just spiteful.
|
and full of fun....
|
Ok, how many of us went running to the Thai Air website looking for the "new" and "restored" JFK non stop? All I found was the LAX flight, at a high price for spring travel.
At this point I am thinking Bob got some kind of kickback from TG for spreading the false rumor. . . . |
this board needed a little excitement for a change...its been getting boring...
|
I totally agree.
It is for this reason we must not be too censorious of afterall and his pithy tongue-lashings; of AskOksana his sex-crazed, masturbatory ramblings, gpanda his strange speedo fetish, Guenmai her lavish obsession with Thai Air - even Dogster his ramblings. Bless us all, Tiny Tim, bless us all. |
Dogster...I just have to really laugh on that one. Happy Travels!
|
Noooo ....
I didn't see the rest of the message. I feel like an idiot now. I would LOVE if they reinstated the JFK-BKK flight. Cheers, Vikinggirl18 |
I'm just glad to see that my long-standing displeasure with Bob's antics is now shared. Hey I've got to go to dinner with the clown. Can Thai Air fly him away from here? Maybe a charter? I could easily take up a collection.
|
They're also moving all operations back to Don Muang.
Yes, that's also just a joke... |
i'm on the first flight from nyc to don maung.....only $550. introductory offer
for flights from 1-30 october, 2007 |
In the same vein (Thai Air schedule changes) I've just found out that our overnight flight from Osaka to Bangkok on January 30 has been cancelled. The "new" Thai Air flight leaves KIX at 10:30 AM and arrives BKK at 3:00 PM. This screws up our connection in Bangkok for a morning Bangkok Air flight on Jan 30th to Luang Prabang.
The only option seems to be leaving Osaka 18 hours earlier, on January 29th at 10:30 AM, and spending the night at the Bangkok airport. Guenmai (or others), any luck in getting an accommodation voucher, or other compensation, from Thai Air for what they did to you? |
As far as my messy, back and forth Thai Air situation, and other messiness, I handled the whole situation by calling them the day after Thanksgiving and canceling and went to Buenos Aires instead and just got back last night.
Get a voucher? I doubt it. They didn't offer me a voucher when they changed my flight back and forth thus informing me that I would be leaving a day earlier than planned. I would have ended up with a loss of a day's salary and an extra night to pay at my serviced apartment building. It's good I don't prepay, so when I canceled everything I didn't lose out on my apartment. Then they changed the flight back to the original schedule after I had notified my serviced apartment building that I needed to arrive a day earlier. In the future, hopefully I'll be able to afford to go back to flying to Bangkok, by way of Singapore, and on Singapore Air. Happy Travels! |
