Has anyone done this - Sunrise Meditations at the Phnom Krom Pagoda overlooking Tonle Sap near Angkor Wat

A friend of mine clipped an article from Conde Nast (not sure what issue) entitled "The Fabulous 50" where one of the 50 recommendations was to go before sunrise and join the monks for morning prayers at the Phnom Krom Pagoda on a hill overlooking the lake. Being Conde Nast, they were recommending a $160 tour to do this but I was wondering if we could just get an early start with Ponheary, our guide and do it before heading to Tonle Sap and the Vietnamese Floating Village. Anyone?

$160 for a tour? That is silly!!

Yes, you can just get an early start and do it on your own. We didn't get there at sunrise, but were there very early in the day. It was quiet and lovely. The temple there isn't much in comparison to the many other temples. Frankly, I wouldn't waste time with a guide to do this, as you can do it easily on your own with just a driver (for both Phnom Krom and Tonele Sap). Use your guide for the temples.

Kathie, I hope you realize that I would NEVER pay $160 for a tour like this in Cambodia. We have Ponheary and our driver all day anyway and I was just wondering if anyone had had the experience descibed in Conde Nast.

Bob, pleasant dreams...it will be in my trip report if we decide to do it.

We did it (we're ealy risers so it was easy) and, yes, you can easily do it with a driver.

Craig, I know you're an experienced enough traveler not to fall for the $160 tour - that is incredibly outrageous. Since you have Ponheary for the whole day, sure, do it with her. We enjoyed early morning at the wat, but it certainly wasn't as impressive as most of the other things we did,
