Has anybody done the Temple Walk in Omomichi or the Kurama-Kibune hike?

Has anyone done either of these 2 walks/hike. In my itinerary, I have time for one, not both.

Yes, I did the Onomichi Temple Walk in April 2009....I really wasn't planning to do it as I had only allocated a couple of hours for Onomichi, but I ended up spending most of the day there. I found a map somewhere or other and it was fairly easy to follow - and there are stone markers along the way. Of course this was seven years ago so maybe it's different now.

You saw the japan-guide.com page I guess....the official map is much more detailed needless to say...

As far as Kurama and Kibune I visited them both on the same day but by train. The pictures I saw on japan-guide showing the tree root hiking trail is definitely not my style. I don't mind stone steps, did about 1000 up to Yamadera last year but not tree roots, too many tripping hazards for me....

Hope that helps.

Mara-Could you give me your scenic impressions of Onomichi, and Kibune and Kurama. Which in your opinion is most worth including in my itinerary?

Oh dear.....everyone is different...can't really say what to include in your itinerary....

I liked Onomichi as the temple walk covered a large area and pretty much went through the local narrow streets in order to get from one temple to the next. Also I was there when the sakura were in bloom. And there was a cable car ride to a park and museum before I started the walk, I think...this was a few years back.

And Onomichi is the venue for the movie Tokyo Story and there is a small museum there so that was also part of my visit.

Kibune and Kurama are in the outskirts of Kyoto so pretty much almost rural - and there is not much else to see other than the shrine and temple as I did not go further into the onsen area....but it was very scenic.

Can't remember when you are going - maybe the fall would be better for Kibune/Kurama but I wasn't there at that time of year....

Thanks Mara. I found your comments helpful. If we go to Onomichi I'll rent Tokyo story.

BTW-We are planning to go in Nov.
