Happy Valley Races

I read on the main website for the Hong Kong Jockey Club that the racing season ended on July 1 and the next season doesn't begin until mid-September. Does this mean that there will be no races at all in August? I will be there from Aug 26 to the 30th. Thanks!

You're correct.

Oh boo, I guess I'll just have to return to Hong Kong in the future!

It’s too rainy and hot in July and August for racing (it’s too rainy and hot in May, June and September too, but whatever). However, there is still some limited night racing in Macau, see http://www.mjc.mo/mjc/index.php. If you will be in Singapore, they also still have racing in the summer, see http://www.turfclub.com.sg/.

Don't forget Da Ma Cai in Malaysia.

The Selangor Turf Club in Sungai Besi, KL
The Perak Turf Club in Ipoh
The Penang Turf Club in Penang

They all have horse racing in the summer, on Sat & Sun only.

You have to be v. comfortable with crowds and not a little of claustrophobic, otherwise, don't think of going to the horse racing in Hk.

10 years ago I took a friend who grew up in a small community in Mass, and her sis to shop in HK, her sis was so bothered by the crowds in causeway bay that she flew out the next day. The race track is that X 10. It is total madness even outside of the race track. I usually avoid going near that area ( happy valley ) altogether when the races are on.

I don't know where you live, some people go to saratoga springs NY for horse racing, i go there bacause I like it there.
