Sorry it's taken so long, and I will continue working on Hue, Hoi An, Saigon and Mekong Delta photos,,,,then Siem Reap....then Thailand....I'm working backwards.

Please let me know if you have trouble viewing.

Love your photos. We will post our own once we get our computer up and running. My husband's ancient computer had a virus. We had intended to replace it as soon as he was finished editing our pictures, but had to do that sooner. Hopefully our pictures will survive. Otherwise we will have to start from square one and reload them off our cameras, re-select the best pictures out of thousands and re-edit. Luckily we did back up everything shortly before we detected the virus.

Wonderful photos once again -- thanks. I have only been to the public areas of the Metropole and went on a different boat at Halong Bay so I enjoyed seeing the close-ups of your accommodations at both.

Thank you for posting. We are following in your footsteps (first trip to Asia) in March 2011. The pictures are really whetting my appetite and I can't wait to see Hue, Hoi An, etc. (we're going as far as Siem Reap, no Thailand this trip)

Thanks everyone for your encouraging remarks.

dgunbug, I feel for you because it takes so much time to go through all of them...delete ...and edit. Hopefully the pics are OK.

Wounderful pictures...thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see the rest. Halong Bay is SOOOOO changed from when we were there in 2000. There were none of the big boats, and I would be willing to say we saw maybe 5 other boats the whole day we were there, on a much smaller boat than any I saw in your pictures. The houses in the floating village seem to be upgraded also. All that tourist money at work.

kmkrnn & rhkkmk....interesting to hear that Ha Long Bay has changed so much....it seems so timeless but glad to hear that perhaps some of the tourist money is benefitting the locals. More & bigger boats doesn't sound so good....but the only place we really noticed them was at the cave....and it didn't seem crowded inside. We were there on a Sat. though when I'm told it's less crowded...the Emeraude seemed like a ghost ship there were so few people aboard.

julia1....thanks for looking at these and enjoying them!

Loved the photos. We're going next January and have to choose between Hanoi and an overnight on Ha Long Bay. I'm leaning toward the latter. Any thoughts?

Barefoot: thanks for sharing the lovely pix. We were on the same path last Nov.
emckeeve : do you mean an overnight on the boat on Ha Long Bay? I enjoy my one night on the boat, I wouldn't have minded two but it depends on who other people are. I like small boat with less cabins and few people. It took at least two and a half hours from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay, making it a day trip would be way too rush. Hanoi is great though, I kept extending my stay there.

Thanks emckeeve and mohan! I agree that I'd pick Hanoi over Ha Long Bay, if you only have one night...but we had four nights in Hanoi, which was enough for us. It is a long drive...we left at 8:30 and arrived at noon. coming back we went straight to the airport which was a little better. I would pick a boat that you'd be comfortable on if it's crummy weather...which it was for us.

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. We've just finished booking a spring break trip for next year. We will have six nights in Hanoi and one on Ha Long Bay. Now for months of waiting...
