Halong Bay vs Krabi

I've been to Krabi and loved the off-shore rock formations, and snorkling. Would Halong Bay be a similiar type experience? If its too similiar, I might want to pass on Halong Bay and add another location in Vietnam.

There are beautiful rock formations in Halong Bay. We did some kayaking under and around them and we also climbed some steep steps into caves to see the elaborate ones. I didn't snorkel so I cannot comment. We thought the scenery was breathtaking and we enjoyed our two days tremendously. I love sleeping in the boat and waking up in the middle of the ocean. Can you do that in Krabi? I personally like small boats with fewer cabins and less people and I was willing to pay more for that. All tour boats offer more or less the same activities, do some comparative shopping and choose the one that fits your budget.

I found Krabi to be much more enjoyable than Halong Bay. That was probably in large part to the tour we want on in HB, which was really more like herding cattle than anything else. I'd say that other areas of Vietnam are much more interesting but if you are really keen on Halong Bay, spend some time researching and choosing your tour so you don't get stuck on a dud one like us :( More info and pics at http://patrinadoestheglobe.blogspot....i-vietnam.html
