guides in India

we will be india for a month and would like to book a car with a driver ,hotels and train reservations. Most tours we look at include a lot of activities and guide services in different cities. Should we book these or just go with hotels and a car and decide when we are there whether we should hire a guide and which activities to take part in. We are seniors and have travelled extensively on our own. We have an itinerary from a travel agent in India. Would we save a lot of money doing it this way or should we let agency do everything. Any help would be appreciated.thanks

we are in our 60's and had our first trip to india last november....we stayed only 11 days and had a driver for the entire time....we did only the golden triangle...

i talked to 3 delhi agents in the planning stages...i selected one and between us we made the arrangements....he did everything except for a couple of hotel res that i made myself...

i saved a ton on the hotels i did myself....indian hotels are slow to confirm....

we stayed mostly in 4* hotels, like sheratons...

our driver was fantastic and you could contact him directly....he knows many people and could help you put things together....

he is anoop kapoor: [email protected]
his english is decent and he is lots of fun....tell him bob and karen suggested him to you...

india is not easy in any way, but he made it easy...

I have spent months working with tentative plans with Varsha at Compass Tours, Mr. VP Singh at Legends and Palaces and Anil at 4Wheel Drive Rajasthan. They were all wonderful to deal with, and it was very difficult to make a choice. I know we would have been happy with any of them.

thanks for the help. who did you finally book with and did it includes guides in certain locations. We usually dont have guides and we use guide books for history and background. I am still undecided whether just to book car and hotels since I feel this might give us more flexibility
