GTG in NYC on 12/26/07 -- Calling ekscrunchy, ggreen, baaj and interested Fodorites

DATE: Wednesday, December 26, 2007

TIME: TBD

PLACE: Our Place Shanghai Tea Garden @141 E. 55th Street between 3rd and Lexington, New York City, USA

Please let me know what is a good time to meet.

EK -- visiting friends in their Manhattan offices before and after lunch so won't be able to go to Chinatown with you, but there is always a next time!

cruisinred Nov 26th, 2007 08:40 AM

I work within walking distance of east 55th....are you thinking more of lunch or dinner?
It would be great to meet people.

ekscrunchy Nov 26th, 2007 09:54 AM

Count me in...I am flexible on time. Can't wait!!

monicapileggi Nov 26th, 2007 10:01 AM

Oh, I wish I could join you!!!!

Have fun.

Monica ((F))

Shanghainese Nov 26th, 2007 10:24 AM

cruisinred -- lunch this time, we have dinner obligations that day already.

Monica -- we'll do another GTG in northern California or Shanghai next time!

cruisinred Nov 26th, 2007 10:26 AM

Sounds great. I'm in for lunch. I look forward to meeting everyone.

monicapileggi Nov 26th, 2007 02:30 PM

I'll be in Shanghai in October 2008!!! I would love to meet up with fellow fodorites then!

Monica ((F))

tengohambre Nov 26th, 2007 06:55 PM

I live right near Our Place, and would love to attend. (Though we may be in Lake Placid that week.) Please keep the information coming.

Our Place has some great soup dumplings, terrific slippery chicken and some very good Szechuan dumplings.

Look forward to meeting others.
Tengo.

rhkkmk Nov 26th, 2007 08:41 PM

we would love to come down from boston also....any chance to have it at dinner or late afternoon, otherwise we have to leave way toooo early....??

let us know the details..

bob and karen

ekscrunchy Nov 27th, 2007 05:15 AM

Can we try the red-cooked pork?? I am salivating already!

zinders Nov 27th, 2007 06:42 AM

Aw. I have to work. Otherwise, we would try to come up from Philly to say hello.

Shanghainese Nov 27th, 2007 10:56 AM

EK -- you may order anything you like and I can't wait to share it in NYC. I had to get a take-out order of red-cooked pork day after Thanksgiving so I didn't have to eat turkey 2 days in a row.

Tengo -- hope you can come.

Bob & Karen -- we'd love to meet you two. We are visiting NJ from CA and on a tight schedule, korean bbq dinner is already arranged with close friends who can't do lunch.

Editor Katie -- can you come?

Shanghainese Nov 29th, 2007 07:53 AM

ggreen, baaj and others?

rhkkmk Nov 29th, 2007 08:13 AM

we'll have to pass this time i guess...timing is not right for us...

Shanghainese Dec 2nd, 2007 03:31 PM

bob and karen -- we'll find the right time and right place (Boston?) next year. So far:

ekscrunchy
cruisinred
Tengo
baaj (maybe on vacation)
Shanghainese
Mr. S

What would be a good time for lunch? We are flexible.

ekscrunchy Dec 3rd, 2007 03:57 AM

What's good for you? I live nearby so can meet at any time that you choose..

tengohambre Dec 3rd, 2007 04:22 AM

Ok, while I likely live closest to Our Place, we won't be able to make Wednesday the 26th. We will be in Lake Placid and returning home that day.

Not to rock the boat but, is there any way to move it to the following day, Thursday the 27th or the 28th?

Thanks
Tengo

Shanghainese Dec 3rd, 2007 08:33 AM

Tengo -- you are not rocking the boat, same as you ggreen can only do 12/27 or 12/28.

EK and cruisinred -- what are your availability on 12/27 or 12/28?

DH and I will try to change our schedule and let you know.

ekscrunchy Dec 3rd, 2007 10:14 AM

S..I am good for either of those dates!

ggreen Dec 3rd, 2007 12:08 PM

Hi Shanghainese, thanks for the tip about this post!

As you mentioned, lunch on the 26th isn't good for me, either. Any time on any following days is fine, though!

Mmm, red cooked pork!! =P~

baaj Dec 3rd, 2007 01:41 PM

You called, so I thought I'd sound in here. :)

A GTG sounds great, but as I told Shanghainese in another thread, my holiday plans are still as of yet undefined (still trying for a last-ditch island trip). So I'll have to be a tentative for now.

But the thought of hongshao rou with fellow Fodorites sure is enticing!

tengohambre Dec 3rd, 2007 05:39 PM

The 27th and 28th should both be good for me, though the Friday may be better. Of course, if we call ahead, I wonder if there could be a Peking Duck waiting for us?
Tengo.

ekscrunchy Dec 4th, 2007 03:38 AM

It is a Shanghai restaurant, but they have Peking duck on their menu.

tengohambre Dec 4th, 2007 04:18 AM

You know, I hadn't focused on that but I remember that one Chinese New Year's we had Peking Duck at Our Place, as part of a set menu. It was very good.

Yet, a couple years ago a restaurant "Peking Duck," opened on East 53d street, nearby. It is the second of two, the first one still being in Chinatown. They make a heck of a duck . . .
Hope to see you soon.

cruisinred Dec 4th, 2007 04:40 AM

The 27th or 28th would work for me too.
Looking forward to a yummy lunch with interesting company.

ekscrunchy Dec 4th, 2007 04:43 AM

I think a Peking duck would make a great appetizer for us! Keep us posted on the date and time!

Shanghainese Dec 4th, 2007 08:25 AM

Juggle and juggle, and Friday 12/28/07 lunch it is. Is there a way to change the title? Or should I start another thread?

rhkkmk Dec 4th, 2007 10:10 AM

i would start a new thread with new date and you might pick up more people...

wish our schedule would allow us to come...

Shanghainese Dec 4th, 2007 01:59 PM

bob and karen -- was hoping you could make the new date ...

laurieco Dec 4th, 2007 02:06 PM

I may be able to make lunch that day so count me in unless something dramatic happens.

I know I haven't been posting as much as I used to but hoping that will change and I want to meet some of the Fodorites who haven't been to the Boston GTGs.

jenskar2 Dec 4th, 2007 05:08 PM

I'd love to do this -- let me know the date you pick -- I'm close and it's the perfect time of year for me.
A thought too -- I've fallen in love with Thai Privilege Spa in SoHo -- they are an authentic Thai spa from the foot baths to the ginger tea and sawadee kah -- maybe some of us would like to book a treatment too?

Shanghainese Dec 5th, 2007 11:09 AM

laurieco -- I have started a new thread for the new date of 12/28 lunch, so please check it.
