Green Gecko Project

Has anyone volunteered with the Green Gecko Project in Siem Reap?

http://www.greengeckoproject.org/

We're likely spending 3-5 days in Siem Reap, and we'd like to spend some time volunteering/working with children while we're there. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

There are many organizations, I don't know much about this particular one. Have you looked at www.theplf.com It's a charity started by a Fodorite in cooperation with Ponheary Ly. Many Fodorites have donated and visited schools and some have volunteered.

When in Cambodia I urge you to visit this incredible children's hospital. I was there a year after it was established in PP and Dr. Richner has saved thousands of children because of his work -- there were literally no doctors in the whole country when he set up this hospital. I see they now have one is SR as well. Go to this history section. I visited it in 1992 and 94 and have been giving money ever since.

Yep, I found them too! I've written to Ponheary and am waiting to hear back. I liked that this project works with former street kids in Siem Reap, and part of the volunteering is just playing and giving them some individual attention. Kids need that :) I'm sure whatever I could do through Ponheary would be great too -- just checking out my options, in case she is booked.

Hello, We visited the Green Gecko with our children in July. Tania does a wonderful job of coordinating all the help she can muster up. As they are only a small affair I strongly recommend that you give them all the support you can. We found this to be a really friendly and lively place to visit. Hope this helps.
