Grand Plaza or Grand Copthorne

My husband will be presenting a conference at the Grand Copthorne. I will be in Singapore to enjoy sites, shop, etc. Which hotel would be preferable to stay at? I realize one is downtown and the other is not. Is their good, safe transportation between the Grand Copthorne and the shoppping areas? I need a quick answer-thanks in advance!

I've been to Singapore quite a bit on vacation, but haven't stayed at either of the hotels you have mentioned and can't picture them in my mind. Singapore is very small. The whole country is half the size of L.A. County. So, if I were you, I would just concentrate on picking the hotel that is closest to a MRT(subway)station. Happy Travels!

Oh, as far as safety...I can't think of many places that are safer. I've never had any problems there and I'm female and travel alone. One can go out at night, in Singapore, without any hassle whatsoever. No one has ever bothered me there...but I never let my guards totally down anywhere I travel to. Happy Travels!

Would someone be able to tell me which is closest to a MRT station? Many thanks.

Hi liketotravel, of the two, I would choose the Grand Plaza Parkroyal.
Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel on Havelock Rd sits along the Singapore river. There are no MRT stations nereby and the location is preety isolated. You would probably need to take a cab to wherever you want to go.
The Grand Plaza is along Hill street and about 150 meters away from the City Hall MRT station. It's a much better location for you 'cos it's more centrally located. you can check out the hotel's website http://grandplaza.singapore.parkroya...94/index.shtml.
Raffles city shopping mall, Boat quay, Clarke quay, the esplanade, empress place are all within easy walking distance. It might be a little troublesome for your husband though but there's so much more to see and do in the evenings after his conference. If you want a hotel that is closest to the MRT then Swissotel the stamford or Raffles the Plaza would be the best choice. It sits above city hall MRT station and Raffles city mall attached to it. Hope all this helps.
