Grand Hyatt or Four Seasons?
I'm debating between these two hotels. Any opinions on which has better rooms? The Hyatt is offering better deals. Any experience with the Hyatt Club floor?

Which city?

Oops. Bangkok.

One of the regulars here, Guenmai considers the Four Seasons her home away from home. I haven't stayed at either, but I toured the rooms at the Hyatt. I thought the decor was cold. I just wasn't impressed.
The Spice Market in the Four Seasons has excellent food, but is over-priced in my opinion. The Thai restauatant in the Hyatt has an order from the menu buffet (order all you want for one price) that was very good and reasonably priced. I always recommend that people consider staying along the river - it's what makes it Bangkok to me. Any of the good hotels there - Oriental, Pen, Shangri-La, Marriott Resort and Spa, or the Sheraton Royal Orchid - will give you a good experience. (My fave is the Towers section of the Royal Orchid - breakfast, cocktails and canapes, and free laundry included in your room price). |
Definitely the Four Seasons - is one of the best hotels in Bkk IMO> I agree with kathie that staying on the river can be a great experience but if yiu choose otherwise or would like to stay with one of these 2 hotels go for the Four Seasons. You won't regret it! Great central location too.

your two choices are almost side by side...but i prefer the river locations and either the penn, or our favorite is the marriott---best pool in town....we looked at 4 seasons pool and were very disappointed....we find the need to spend some time every day at the pool to cool off....
biscotti in the 4 seasons is one of bkk's best restaurants...imo |
I can't imagine anyone saying that the Spice Market at the Four Seasons (formerly Regent) has excellent food. My friend and I ate there, and we both agreed it was one of the worst meals we had anywhere, not just Bangkok.
The Grand Hyatt Erawan, on the other hand, has great ambience, and a terrific chocolate fountain buffet for afternoon tea. I've not seen their rooms, but for an in-town hotel, I like hanging out there-it's a good people-watching place. |
Hands Down for the Four Seasons...just the thought of the hotel makes me want to drop in at Thai Air in L.A. and buy a ticket and fly there. You'll love it.You should be able to get a room for $158. Mon-Th and $138.Fri/Sat/Sun.I've never paid more than that. Happy Travels!

As for the food at the Spice Market, it's unfortunate that some have had a bad experience. I didn't. A thai friend and I ate there and we both had a very good experience. The food at the Four Seasons is excellent. I've eaten at all of its restaurants and the Italian restaurant called Biscotti is superb...along with the morning breakfast buffet which I've found the best of any hotel I've stayed at in BK and I've stayed at a lot of different hotels. As for the pool at the Four Seasons,I've found no problem with it, plus the Four Seasons is about much more than the pool. As for the Pen on the river, I peersonally found it cold and as for the Royal Orchid Sheraton, would never stay there again. Again this is my opinion. Different strokes for different folks. Have been on the grounds of the Oriental, but don't want to pay their high price for a room. However, maybe one day I'll try it so I can offer an opinion. Happy Travels!

I haven't stayed at either but have been in both and would definitely pick the 4 Seasons over the Hyatt. I have eaten at the Spice Market and thought it was over rated. Not the worst meal I ever had in Bangkok but definitely not one of the best. I would not return.
However, I'm also with many others in saying that I much prefer staying on the river. |
In the grand tradition of Fodors when asked about hotels in Bangkok "Four Seasons or Grand Hyatt" ?
I'll say Krungthep Wing at The Shangri la. Seriously though, I think the consensus would generally go with the Four Seasons. Both hotels do have however very good reputations. Ithink the room design at the Hyatt is a bit more on the minimalist side. |
