Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Was it worth the stay? How much is a taxi from the airport to the hotel?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike-

Sorry, I haven't stayed here but I just wanted to say that the lobby was gorgeous! I know, typical female response....

:-)
Mike,

Haven't stayed there, however know folks who have and it's a good place. I've stayed at the Island Shangri-La and Mandarin Oriental (both excellent) on the Island and at several hotels in Kowloon.

You may think about negotiating a hotel pickup when you make your reservations. Also there is an express train/coach service that is fairly convenient for about $10 US one-way and $15 round-trip. I haven't taken a taxi from Chek Lop Koc however I suspect they would cost around $30-40. (just a guess) Do try to get the airport transfer in your rate though. The hotels in Hong Kong are still doing good deals to attract customers.

I just returned from Hong Kong three days ago. Let me offer a suggestion. When you stay in Hong Kong you will pay much more for a harbor view than if you stay Kowloon side.

I stayed in the HongKong Hotel at 3 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. This hotel is a one minute walk from the Star Ferry...and is right there in the Harbor City Mall.

I stayed in their Continental Club facility which is the top two floors of the hotel (17 & 18. My room rate included round trip transfers to and from the airport. This is door to door airport-hotel-airport and you don't need to tip the bus driver. A taxi will
cost you more money than the stated cost of the bus which is 120 HK.

The hotel gives your name and arrival time to the service. You go to the hotel transport counter in Arrivals Hall A. AND THATS ALL THERE IS TO IT.

My vacation had a side trip to Singapore so I actually arrived and departed twice...all included in the cost of my hotel room.

I suggest you call the hotel direct or you can contact Marco Polo Hotels 800 number here in the states...

or email the hotel at [email protected] or check the website: www.marcopolohotels.com

By the way, I have seen the Grand Hyatt Hotel in HK and I have stayed at the Hyatt regemcy in Hong Kong. I believe this hotel, the HongKong Hotel is Tsim Sha Tsui is a much better value.

After all there is only so much time that you will spend in the hotel lobby.
Besides that, the best views of Hong Kong are not from the Hong Kong side, but instead are from the Kowloon side.

Taxi fare to Tsim Sha Tsui is about $45 US (348 HK)plus tip. Via the arranged pick up through hotel 120 HK per person and no tip. Of course you realize that the Taxi fare from Chek Lap Kok to Hong Kong Side to the Grand Hyatt will be considerably more plus the toll for the tunnel from Kowloon to HK) There is an alternative which is the train...but after the train to Central you still would new a taxi or bus to your hotel.
Berst bet is have the hotel arrange it, and remember that this is DOOR to DOOR just like a taxi.
Michael

I've stayed there. The lobby has won all kinds of design awards, and rightly so. My room was huge, with solid marble bathroom (even the walls) and sunken tub, gold-plated fixtures. View was just incredible. My own personal butler (same guy seemed to be around no matter what time of day or night I rang for him). The rest of the hotel staff are just what you'd expect -- efficient, unobtrusive. It's expensive, but worth it.
Grand Hyatt is one of the greatest hotels here. It has a magnificant harbour view, and some excellent eating outlets.

The taxi fee should be within the region of HK$300 (US$38), including the tunnel charges. The easiest actually is to take the rail to Central and connect with a taxi. If you are leaving from Central, actually you can check out at the station.
Enjoy Hong Kong!
Grand Hyatt once called itself the six star hotel. It's the place where the celebrities stayed when they came to HK. Bill Clinton and Bill Gates stayed there when they were in Hk. Last year, Mariah Carey stayed there. I was at the lobby when she emerged from the lift.
