Wonderful! That is fantastic, Carol. I suppose the online transfer is not as easy as I thought. Sounds like your persistence on the phone will pay off.

So, you saw the itin using the CO search but UA didn't find the same seats available?

Exactly! Nothing like it on UA... not even close. I just hope I can get the glitches out of the linking of accounts and miles! Wish me luck. I'm v-e-r-y determined to get this done tomorrow morning.

LH 1st class is all that's upstairs on the 747! Looks nice. I've flown LH a number of times, but always in econ.

Hm UACO sent out an e-mail last week saying that MP would be the FF program. I hope that doesn't mean that we will be stuck with UA award availability and search engine and not CO's. I think that I will make a couple of award res using CO this year for travel next year just in case availability dries up when the two programs merge.

Good luck!

Good work, Carol!

I'm also wondering how it will all work when they merge. I always end up calling United to get my award upgrade seats.

Bill, I hope you are right that we can get CO availability after the merger! Now that I see what a person CAN SEE for frequent flier tickets, I'm really excited about using the CO web site for tickets. I'll need another one for Dec to BKK.

Kathie, I've never been one to call UA that much. I just have always tried to book online the last 5-6 years.

>>>AskOksena, will you be in BKK anytime soon? I'll be into and out of BKK twice on this next trip. I recall we were thinking of meeting over a cocktail at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit on one of my recent trips???

Another award ticket to BKK for December? Then you can transfer the miles tomorrow when you call. And maybe book that ticket at the same time, since you can always change it later. No fees as a 1K/Platinum!

I have an award ticket ticket to Japan that I got using the CO website. It is all on Asiana. First class LAX-ICN, then business class to Osaka. Return is biz class from Toyama to Seoul and then first class back to LAX. I don't think I would have ever gotten this itin via United.

I've got to decide how to use some miles I've accumulated. I've been h***bent on reaching 1K once again this year, and I've got that covered, no problem. So, instead of paying money and not being successful at getting SWUs honored on UA, why not use miles I've saved up! Our family goes to Thailand for the holidays every year. I usually go for about 3 weeks. DH says HE wants to go for only 10-12 days this time (but that's just him... I'll stay longer). DS will most likely go for 3 weeks as well.

I was looking at CO for free tickets for my Nov/Dec ZRH trip. I can do first class, saver, in both directions. Hmmm

Lots to think about!

But I'll probably buy the ZRH ticket (rather, our family business will buy my ticket since this is a business trip) and then for sure I'll do one way to BKK on a free one in DEC and then pay for my one-way return, probably a Y fare... I know, expensive. But 150% EQMs for that fare. I good start towards 1K once again.

Bill, Re: your own ticket to Japan... no way you'd get that ticketed thru UA! Good for you. When is this trip going to take place?

Carol

I have one more revenue ticket booked, in August, which will get me to 50K EQMs. I won't make it back to 1K, so there is no reason to buy a ticket with money this year. I will use miles instead.

The award ticket to Japan is for November, around Thanksgiving for about 10 days.

I only wish I understood the mechanics of FF flyer points!!! I was pleased with myself when I managed to transfer Muffins points to my account and get a biz class upgrade!! ( to be fair it was relatively easy on EVA)
Glad you have very thing sorted Craol, one of these days our paths will cross in BKK!!

Carol, world traveler, your air travel on this round-the-world trip ord-sfo-hkg-bkk-sin-bkk-fra-ord would be 21,516 miles.

Excluding the SIN flights, it would be 19,764 miles of which 18,715 miles is in first class.

Add 39 miles if you are going thru NRT enroute to HKG.

A satellite in geo-stationary orbit is at an altitude of 22,236 miles. The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,901 miles. I assume these are MSL altitudes.

Wow... I didn't look at it that way, Bill. THANKS! That's a lot of FF miles. And the cost for that ticket, had I purchased it with $$, would have been thousands...

Really looking forward to adding first time flying 'around the world' to my travel journal on this trip.

That is, the circumference measure is probably at an MSL altitude of zero.

mcbh1... haha... I'm afraid now that I've figured out how to use my miles on COs site, I don't have any extras. None of mine will go to waste.... so sorry!

Heading to OHare this afternoon sometime. My parksleepfly is at the Hyatt Regency this time. Leaving for HGK tomorrow morning! I'm thinking I'll just try to keep this thread running rather than starting up a new one.

S E Asia, here I come. This is trip #24 to BKK since the summer of 2001.

Bon Voyage Carol, Havn't checked Fodors in about 10 days and not only do you decide to return to BKK but get the ff First tickets and you are already off this morning on another exciting adventure.
Our daughter is currently in Singapore (on her way back from 5 weeks in Bali) and we will be headed out to ORD tomorrow (6th July) to pick her up. I think you will both be in the same spot at some point in the next few hours.
Needless to say, I wish you a wonderful "around the world" trip as I'm sure it will be.
All the best
Sue
