Good tour company suggestions from Australia to Vietnam?

My husband and I will be spending from Oct to Dec in Melbourne, Australia for work and would then like to take a tour of Vietnam and possibly Thailand. Anyone know of good/small-sized groups/great local guides tours companies that originate in Australia? If we book a U.S. company, i.e., Overseas Adventure Travel, we wind up spending a lot in airfare (Australia-Bangkok) just to meet up with the tour in Bangkok. Know there must be good tour reasonably priced companies that originate in Australia. Suggestions?

http://www.intrepidtravel.com/ is one of the best known small group tour operators out of Oz and have a very good reputation. For detailed itineraries use the trip search box, top right

I agree it makes the most sense to use a VN company. Do you really want to travel with a group? Any of the VN companies can arrange a private tour for you. Obviously, all the tours by VN companies start and end in VN.

VN and especially Thailand are easy to do on your own.

Really, Vietnam is dead easy too, although I did use Tonkin Travel last time as I wanted a driver for Sapa. I've used Intrepid too - great itineraries and small groups, but more on the budget end than OAT (although I hated OAT the one time I used them).
