Golfing in Phuket, Help Please
 

Hi, as part of our intermarry to Thailand we will spend a week beaching and golfing in Phuket ( Jan. 27-Feb. 3, and wondered if tee times between 9 & 10 are to late because of heat or is that OK? I am also having a difficult time getting rates or making contact with the coarse themselves, the only price I have is from Golf Asia. and seemed quite high. We are staying at the Laguna Beach Resort and after my enquiry they sent rates for over the Christmas Holiday but no way to book anything. I'm concerned about waiting as I realize it is a busy time of year and perhaps there will be no tee times available. I would appreciate any help or comment....Thanks....er

I normally tee off at around 7 am so that I can enjoy the early morning cool temperature. Another reason is that I will finish at around 11.30 am and can enjoy lunch at the club house.

In Phuket the course at the Laguna is a very touristy course often not in the best of condition. Most of the players there are new to the sport and don't know the rule too well which could ruin your day especially when they hit ball while you're still in range.

The best course in Phuket(might be the best in the whole of Asia) and the one where you should try and play is the Blue Canyon - the "Canyon Course". For weekdays you should expect to pay around 2,000 - 2,500 inc caddy and cart. The popular tee time will be early morning and after lunch.

My husband played Blue Canyon while we were there. I believe (you should confirm this) that the Canyon course is only available to members and those staying at their lodging facilities. The Lakes course is open to the public.

I emailed the course directly to book the tee time. And as suggested, starting earlier is advised as it does get quite warm mid-day.

When we played in Hua Hin, I only got through 12...I couldn't take the heat. That combined with jet lag, as it was our 1st day in Thailand.

DH advises that Blue Canyon is a gorgeous course. Difficult but scenic. He enjoyed it very much.
