Going to Japan with a teenager

I am planning to go to Japan in June with my 13 years old son (mother and son trip) we will stay 14 days. Looking for information regarding almost everything, from where to go and what to do with a teenager. Going to Japan is his dream trip. I understand that it will be hot, humid and lots of rain. Should I choose another time or we will have fun anyway? Should I choose some specifics places to stay or anywhere will be fine?
Many thanks!!!

June to mid-September will be hot and humid, but with so much to do and see that you'll soon forget about the climate (it doesn't rain everyday and mostly for a few hours at a time). Almost anywhere will be fine.

What made Japan your son's dream ? I'm sure that many of us will have plenty to suggest, but it would be easier if we knew what his interests are.

For an idea of some of the festivals in June all over Japan:
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/festivals.htm

The main site - www.japantimes.co.jp - has many features on current cultural events.

I went to Tokyo w/my then 14 yr old son 3/00. We had a wonderful time. My son is really into tech so we went to Sony, Elictric City, Sega Joyopolis. But I found he liked a lot of non kid oriented sights as well. We rode the subway "loop" &visited lots of neighborhoods & took a day trip to Kamakura. I got very nervous before leaving about not knowing the language & how the people would treat us. I was so pleasantly surprised by how kind & beautiful they were. Good luck.

Good grief, it must be every teenage boys dream to go to Japan. I went with my 15 yr old last year too (4-00)! We had a great time. Any way I can mail you my trip report if you want. We went to Tokyo (4 nights), Hakone (2 nights), Kyoto four nights, and the last night in Narita. Besides the things that Meg mentions (Sony and Joypolis) he liked the Budda in Kamakura, the Ninja house in Kyoto, Miyijima Island, Hiroshima and the day we spent with the goodwill guide in Kyoto when we could ask all the questions we had.

Leo,
when I was a teenager, my dream was to go to Alaska, North Canada and the North Pole, and it never crossed my mind that I would end up going to Japan almost every year, although I had Japanese friends and I was practicing martial arts ;-)

I went to Alaska twice - 3 hours stopovers on the way to Japan !

I believe that it may be every teenager's dream to go to Japan - I am taking my 13 year old niece in a couple of weeks and would love to read your trip report.

Thanks

Manuy thanks to all your help. Just as last minute I changed from Japan to Thailand (more for less money, maybe...)but my son still tells me that I have to take him to Japan. I am sure that this is going to be our next trip.
Once again, thanks

I was just going to suggest why not Thailand ....

Elephant rides in Chiang Mai is a story he will take back and for sure it will beat any Pokemon story.

Beaches are superb too.

But then Japan is Japan so do not forget to take the big boy sometime in the near future

mx
