Goa Vaut le voyage? Worth the trip

Hi!
We are planning a 2-week trip to southern India for late December, early January, 2015/2016. I have always wanted to see GOa but with limited time to see as many of the wonderful sites as possible, I am wondering whether we should go the distance to GOa.
Any thoughts?

Not unless you want to spend time at the beach. There are a few other things to see - Portuguese churches in Old Goa, spice plantations - but they are not why people go to Goa.

And forgot to ask. Why have you "always wanted" to see Goa? If it's that important, why are you having doubts?

Thank you. GOa has been described to me as a beach like no other, spiritually awe-inspiring... Having doubts because of time-constraints, distances

Hardly. It used to be a major hippy hangout. There are still aging hippies around, all night parties during the season, and a lot of tourists, some, I believe, of the package variety. I am sure there are outfits offering yoga, reiki, Ayurvedic cures etc. etc., but I wouldn't rate their spirituality any higher than anywhere else in India, and quite likely lower.

Goa is a series of beaches. I highly recommend reading the latest Lonely Planet guidebook if you decide to go. It will fill you in on the characteristics of the different beaches. Last time I was there, in 2010, the southern beaches were still somewhat less developed.
