Gluten-free at Shangri-la hotels in China
Hello fellow travellers! My wife and I are taking a short departure from our usual independent travel by going on a Luxury Escapes tour of China for 16 days in May-June this year.
Being "Luxury" Escapes, we were delighted to find out that all of the accommodation is at Shangri-la hotels throughout the tour. Because my wife is Coeliac, we are hoping that the chefs and service staff at the Shangri-la hotels are gluten-aware. Have any fodorites with gluten-intolerance had any experience with staying at this hotel chain in China please? Thanks and regards, Steve |
I had barely any luck with finding gluten free stuff sadly

Have you thought of simply asking them?

White rice = gluten free. That and fried tofu, a splash of soy sauce, steamed greens, a few glasses of moutai (white spirits) and there is your long term diet while in china.

Print out an allergy card in Chinese with the diet restrictions on it. I expect the staff at the Shangri-La will be very accommodating. There are websites that offer these.
