Getting to BKK airport

Our flight leaves BKK airport at noon on a Friday in early October. How's the traffic that time of day? We'd like to not stay at an airport hotel, but concerned about how much time to allow to get to the airport. Would probably stay along the river, Silom, etc. Thanks in advance.

It should take an hour maximum and probably will take about 30 minutes. If you leave at 9AM you'll have plenty of time so definitely stay in town, have a great breakfast at your hotel and then leave.

i would allow an hour and 1/2 bur expect it will take you much less, but that depends on how close you are to the toll road...based on your hotel requests none of the places are all that easily accessible, imo...but taxi drivers sometimes know lots of tricks...

It normally takes 30-45min to airport, but I usually leave one and half hour before.

30 minutes would be a quick ride, imo

The last three years it has never taken me more than 35 minutes (and it has taken 20 a few times) to get to/from the airport and the Oriental. I've gone at all different times. Have I just been lucky? Or do the drivers have a magic way.

gloria---do you lie down on the floor and cover your head because the guy is driving so fast?? 20 minutes from the oriental seems impossible----door to door? it sometimes takes 5 minutes or more just to drive through the airport...

we have noticed lately that there are slowdowns on the toll road where two roads intersect...this has taken 5-10 minutes sometimes...

from the airport to town takes slightly less time, i agree, but 20 min????

i would also add that once you are at the airport the times are longer than at some airports...there is baggage screening, airline check-in which can vary from fast to slow, paying the departure tax, vat refund, immigration, another personal check, duty-free, and almost always a long walk to the departure gate....so allow the full two hours for this just in case there is slowness along the way...

so as someone pointed out leaving bkk at 9 for a noon flight seems about right

sometimes I wish the taxi drivers did take longer.. as it is I feel nautious at the thoght of going back to connecticut. well the weaving and speeding down the toll way really starts the 22 hour journey on a bad note...
