Getting concerned about upcoming trip to Southeast Asia

We are due to leave in a month for a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia, which spends four days in Bangkok at the end. We were so looking forward to the trip, but am fearful about the political uncertainty in Thailand. What are other fodorites doing about upcoming plans? Also, is it possible to go from Cambodia to Hong Kong without first stopping in
Thailand? I hope so, as I would hate to have to cancel the entire trip. Thanks.

Check the Siem Reap and Phnom Penh airport departure information, on their website:

Looks like Siem Reap does not currently have flight direct to Hong Kong (although you could connect through Saigon), but Phnom Penh has a few options on Dragon Air.

Ed, take a deep breath. I think it's unlikely that it will be a problem for you to spend some time in Bangkok before going on to Cambodia. But it's still wise to have a plan B. As Dan says, above, you can fly into Cambodia from Hong Kong.

I like to keep up on goings-on in Bangkok via the local press. There are two English language newspapers in bangkok, The Nation and the Bangkok Post. Both are available online.

Kathie is right. When something goes wrong with your travel plans, you have two choices:
1) Panic, disaster, woe, hair-pulling, crying
or
2) Have an adventure!!
If you are well informed and have a plan B, you should have a wonderful trip.

My son is in Bangkok right now, and I am heading over there on the 20th. We were also in Bangkok right after the airport reopened back in November. I am not changing my plans... (but I'm watching the situation)
