mrwunrfl Nov 13th, 2004 03:54 AM

Jerusalem really should be on everybody else's list, IMHO.

The first two are booked:
1) Buenos Aires*, with day trip to Colonia, Uruguay
2) Thailand (Bangkok & Chiang Mai) and stops in Siem Reap, Seoul, Kyoto*, and Tokyo*.

The next three are very close in ranking (you could call them 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and then Australia would be 4) and I have done a significant amount of research on this year:
3) Moscow & St Petersburg and a stop in Copenhagen
4) India (golden triangle) with stop in Vienna
5) South Africa with side-trip to Victoria Falls

The following have about equal weighting:
6) Australia
7) Italy
8) Ireland
9) Toronto
10) Grand Canyon

*=been there before, never been to the other places.

2. Costa Rica (great volcano)
3. Bermuda (leave in a month)
4. Singapore/Bali (summer 2005 vacation)
5. Fiji (Christmas 2005 vacation)
6. Greece (Summer 2006 vacation)
7. Can't think that far in advance....

FastenYourSeatBelts Nov 14th, 2004 09:00 PM

Hmm, I thought bob said Asia... I supposed one gets carried away easily when they're having fun?

Neil_Oz Nov 14th, 2004 11:22 PM

He did say "and elsewhere if you wish". In that light,
1. Italy
2. France
3. Turkey
4. Malaysia/Indonesia
5. Bits of Australia I haven't paid due attention to.
6. Pacific NW USA and Canada, but not before the Americans stop fingerprinting their allies.
7, 8, 9, 10 - plenty of ideas but short of the readies.

SidB Nov 15th, 2004 12:07 AM

Subject to the usual order changes forced on us all (finance usually).

1. Thailand
2. Vietnam
3. Sri Lanka
4. Costa Rica
5. Australia
6. Cambodia
7. Morocco
8. Peru
9. Goa
10. Botswana
11. China
12. Malaysia
13. China
14. Borneo
15. Eire
16. Cuba
17. Czech Republic
18. Holland
19. New Zealand
20. Brazil
21. Venezuala (SP.)
22. Canada
23. France
24. I could continue.

Somewhere high on the list would be New England, California, New York, New Orleans etc etc. Because of the difficultie with changes to immigration regulations I have chosen not to visit. The security checks at Heathrow are fantasstic yet I am still checked for weapons on entering the USA. Absolutely ridiculous. Are we part of the coalition or not ?

FastenYourSeatBelts Nov 15th, 2004 01:32 AM

Oh yea he did! Duh...

And mine

Bangkok (Jan 05)
Niagra Falls
Greece
Mauritius
Bali
Ireland
Spain
NZ
Brazil
All parts of Australia except Syd (been there)
etc
etc
etc

mrwunrfl Nov 15th, 2004 03:44 AM

It's up to you, SidB. Probably better that you stay away.

SidB Nov 15th, 2004 04:36 AM

mrwunrfl, that's a good example of the attitude I'm talking about. In my travels I try to be as courteous as I reasonably can. I expect the same in return. Sadly, this was not the case the last time I visited the US. In UK travel forums I have heard this said many times.

Guenmai Nov 15th, 2004 07:00 AM

In no particular order...Sri Lanka/Maldives/Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia/ Myanmar/Aruba/Bhutan/Zanzibar/Argentina/Osaka,Japan....and of course back to most of the couple dozen or so places I've already been to which I adore. Happy Travels!

indie Nov 15th, 2004 07:37 AM

Peru (Hiking the Inca Trail ) May 2005
Australia (again to see more of central and western parts)
New Zealand
France (only seen Paris - this time Provence)

Guenmai Nov 15th, 2004 09:46 AM

I can't believe that only two people listed Brazil. It's an incredible paradise...especially the Salvador area in the region of Bahia and that whole Bahia area...blue...blue...water and amazing beauty...a true paradise. Happy Travels!

kuranosuke Nov 15th, 2004 11:27 AM

bob; i think we are ready for a tally. :-)

becasue of all the pressure put upon me i declare the voting closed....anyone who has not voted is probably wearing shorts and a t-shirt and is yelling that if they are not allowed to enter the lobby at the bangkok oriental that they will retreat to the tower rooms at the ROS...and that's that!!!!

kuranosuke Nov 15th, 2004 09:55 PM

roberto; bravo zulu, well done. now go have a glass of wine, and go to bed. tomorrow is another day, so pls come up with another survey. this was fun. btw, i guess its too late to change mars to the moon, i think its closer. oyasumi.

Gpanda Nov 16th, 2004 05:55 AM

Have the provisional votes been counted? How about the long lines to vote? Cambridge is a state of mind and soul. Mere physical visits cannot transport anyone to that higher plane. That's why Bob and I have dinner in Brookline. There's a border that he cannot/will not cross. I do note for the record that a tally of places without weighting them by where they are mentioned in posters' wish lists is unrepresentative of how much each location is desired. For instance two number 10 mentions should not get higher ranking than a single entry at the top of someone's list. Typical Republican polling data.

rhkkmk Nov 16th, 2004 06:13 AM

let me "flip flop" a bit and add in the moon...one vote...

it should be noted that the ve5ry best travel book store in the northeast is located in cambridge, ma and thus one has to travel to communist enclaves on occasion....

TracyB Nov 16th, 2004 04:00 PM

Well for everyone that voted for India, I have to say, after just getting back last week, that India is the most amazing place that I have ever seen!!
