Fukuoka, Japan Car Rental
A few questions about an upcoming trip to Japan!
1. Just wondering if anyone knows of reputable and affordable car rental company's in Fukuoka, Japan. 2. I will be most likely booking online but may call a few companies as well. Are there any english speaking companies for over the phone bookings as I dont speak Japanese. |

You can book online in English with Tocoo (a broker/intermediary) and your car will be supplied by a contracted rental firm, such as Nissan and Mazda-rent-a-car.
The trouble is when you come to pick up your car, the staff at the rental station are unlikely to speak much English, and almost certainly not well enough to conduct a business conversation. They often have an English leaflet that explains the basics, but don't expect them to answer complicated questions. But at least the red tape is minimum - all they want is your international driving permit (essential), passport and credit card, and your signature on rental form. Cars are normally supplied with full tank of gas/petrol, and you are expected to return full. |
Thanks again Alec. I guess booking with them online is a safe bet and I will have an english reciept with all of the necessary details such as CDW insurance etc.

Hmm there seems to be a lot of available car companies in the Fukuoka area. We have a 14 day JR pass and will be arriving in Fukuoka by train but Im not sure what station we get off at and I'd like to find one close to the Train station.

Fukuoka's main train station is Hakata. It's a pretty vast and complicated place with many exits.
If you need a car, I assume you are going off the beaten track. Care to tell us where? |
Thanks SOG! Nowhere real specific yet. Just all around Kyushu. Aso San, Imari, Kagoshima, Nagasaki...wherever the next day takes us!!
I guess my main concerns are: a) getting off at the right station b) finding the car rental place c) getting out of the city!! Any tips are GREATLY appreciated! |
