we do not accept pennies, only $100 bills in brown envelopes

simpsonc510 Mar 8th, 2008 01:21 PM

Is that a "plain" brown envelope? No return address. Please use only the new style $100's.

(Just trying to help you be more clear, Bob)

(When guenmai gets back to the computer and checks in here, she'll be soooooo pleased that we are all concerned about her)

rhkkmk Mar 8th, 2008 01:23 PM

i'm in for $500,000

carol you should be able to improve on that

you hav e the proper envelope

Craig Mar 8th, 2008 01:37 PM

I'll donate 1,000,000 baht in 100 baht notes and in a brown envelope, of course.

rhkkmk Mar 8th, 2008 02:24 PM

all is welcome

Gpanda Mar 8th, 2008 02:44 PM

Count me in for $100. It's in four Seasons gift certificates. Who would have ever thought Bob and I would contribute to the same cause?

rhkkmk Mar 8th, 2008 02:48 PM

just loke an attorney---100 bucks....so cheap it is unbelievable!!! shortage of ambulances in cambridge i guess...they probably all ride their bikes to the emergency room...

simpsonc510 Mar 8th, 2008 02:53 PM

Bob
I'll match your contribution just as soon as I finish selling all my beaded bags!

lcuy Mar 8th, 2008 03:05 PM

I'm sending in $500,000! I mean really, isn't guen worth at least that? Mine will be the donation in the floral on gold silk jewelry bag from SJ. I know Guen will approve.

Gpanda Mar 8th, 2008 03:20 PM

It's just like a banker to generaously offer to contribute and then not put up. Plus, this is likely to be his only contribution of the year. Why not give to one of the few people that can tolerate him?

Gpanda Mar 8th, 2008 03:21 PM

Plus, I was brought up to say thank you to every contribution and not judge the level of someone's generosity. I guess they don't have manners in Needham.

rhkkmk Mar 8th, 2008 05:31 PM

in needham we don't even tip the garbage man as little as $100 weekly....i guess this shows what you think of our dear guen

Kathie Mar 8th, 2008 06:55 PM

I don't think you need to free Guen. She's freed herself and on her way to Paris!

simpsonc510 Mar 9th, 2008 04:26 AM

Kathie
Thanks for that wonderful news. I'm glad guen isn't being humiliated in the Pasadena Prison. Paris is MUCH better!

Have a wonderful trip, guen!!

BTW, now, she'll really need our donations. Just think of the dollar to euro exchange rate!!

Carol

Kathie Mar 9th, 2008 10:12 AM

That's certainly true, Carol. The exchange rate is so bad, I'm not even looking at Europe until the dollar strengthens or hell freezes over, whichever comes first.

Gpanda Mar 9th, 2008 10:39 AM

Have none of you read Kafka? A trip to Europe is not necessaily incarceration free.

DonTopaz Mar 9th, 2008 11:29 AM

Gpanda, not everyone follows your lead in bringing along a volume or two of Kafka on vacation for light reading.

Gpanda Mar 9th, 2008 11:32 AM

I figure it's light packing if I don't bring his collected works.

Guenmai Mar 10th, 2008 04:55 PM

I'm still here, but BUSY. I'm off to Paris. Happy Travels!

rhkkmk Mar 10th, 2008 05:13 PM

we collect all this money for her and she does not even say thank you...that's it!!!!!!!!1

Guenmai Mar 10th, 2008 06:53 PM

Bob...darlin'...when your checks clear, THEN, I'll send thanks...M-A-N-Y thanks...and from very far away! Happy Travels!

lcuy Mar 10th, 2008 07:55 PM

Hewy Fuen, when you get a chance, where do you get clothes made in Singapore? And is there a store like SJ there?

Guenmai Mar 11th, 2008 06:47 AM

Carol...Yes,the dollar is low, but I've rented an apartment and paid it out in full, back in January, and in dollars....so the dollar fluctuation didn't hit me like it usually hits me when I reserve a hotel room and then pay when I leave. I used a N.J. company that doesn't raise its prices that much. They only needed a $300. deposit which I paid many months ago and then the balance was due two months before departure.
Last week they mailed me the apartment keys, so when I get there all is set up.
It's in my neighborhood of nearly 30 years and I know there's a supermarket down the street and a whole street lined with other food-related shops on the same street, a block away. So, I'll cook...which I prefer to do anyway as I've never been fond of French food. And on days I don't cook, I'll go to the French vegetarian/vegan restaurant that I've eaten at since the early 80s. It's just down the street...same owner and her family.

Also, one of my Thai restaurant-
owner friends here, just told me, two days ago, about a great Thai restaurant just south of me. I'll be in the 6th, the restaurant is down in the 13th.
So, once one has gotten the accomodations taken care of and the food thing squared away, then the rest isn't as bad as it could be. It's all about working around the drastic fall of the dollar as much as possible. Happy Travels!

kmkrnn Mar 11th, 2008 10:49 AM

Maybe she will buy some french pocketbooks?
