Four Days in Bali
 

Me and wife have four days to spend in Bali and it is our first time.
we would just like to relax, eat, drink, and explore local culture. We also love culture and would like to do little sightseeing.
Can someone please suggest an itinerary and some possible ideas please....

Head straight for Ubud, only an hour or so by road from the Airport. The town itself gets quite congested with traffic during the day. But on the northern edge of town you'll find paddy fields galore to wander around, and a thousand shades of green.

Organise your sightseeing, and hiring of driver to take you around from there.

I'd stay clear of the tourist beach areas, Kuta and Legian. But you might like Sanur, very laid back, and alovely 6 or 7 km Boardwalk, plus sheltered bathing.

One BIG tip....beware money changers, there's quite a few scammers. Count you money at least twice, and NEVER let the the bloke at the kiosk touch the money again once he's counted it out to you.....they're very clever.

If you are interested in the local culture you have far too little time to even get a sense of it. 4 days and you'll get a sip.

Take a look at a copy of Lonely Planet's Indonesia guide or go to the website and read the parts about Bali and begin to take notes. You'll soon find you have a month's worth of things you want to see/do.

Where are you staying? The two beach areas I warn people away from are Nusa Due (a sterile tourist enclave) and Kuta (full of drunk adolescents). I do agree with LL about Sanur. It is my favorite beach area of Bali.

While you certainly will want to visit Ubud, it isn't the only area with cultural riches. Reading the Lonely Planet's info will help you choose areas you'd like to visit.

I've never had a money changer in Bali try to cheat me, but it can happen. Enjoy your brief time on Bali, and plan a longer trip for the future!

I agree with Kathie! And I didn’t have any trouble with money changers either, but then, I used ATMs.

I would suggest Ubud for 3 days and jimbaran for 1. Jimbaran has the best sunset and you ca enjoy dinner with your wife along the beach.

Plenty of food for thought. We found that if the RoE looked too good then avoid, and never under any circumstances go to a money changer down a side alley or off the main road.

The time when you are most likely to be off your guard, is the first day after arriving from a long flight. It was for me, and I very nearly got scammed for 25% of a £200 exchange. People who say they've never been scammed have probably never realised.....the scammers have very nimble fingers, and can quickly see whether you are 'game' or not.

LL, are you really saying that I was scammed by a money changer in Bali but just didn't notice?
