For those who care about dogs - Thailand and Sri Lanka

I believe this 'is' travel related as many who travel to both Thailand and Sri Lanka notice poor dogs in need of care and stories of dogs getting a 'lucky break' are rare. Many also want to know about places that need help.

This story from Phuketwan ( Phuket online press ), it means something to me because I remember this from 10 years+ ago in Phuket, in one way it's a sad story but for the Dog ( Rama ) it was a happy life story, a life she otherwise would not have had. Rama had a good life thanks to this wonderful person.

Kim now runs a charity for dogs in Sri lanka for any dog lovers who visit there ( I know nothing more than what I read in the article but thought it worth a mention for those interested ):

There is a "Soi Dog" foundation in Phuket - which is currently trying to raise funds to buy the land they occupy. You can buy 1 meter for about $32. They are unrelated to the Bangkok-based Soi Cat and Dog charity. Links to both are here:

Soi dogs are a disgrace and a reflection on a country's ability to appreciate or deal with its animals in a humane way.
As it is they spread disease and generally cause a nuisance - culling them is NOT a solution. Treating animals in a humane way does not necessarily involve giving special treatment to the few - it requires an overall comprehensive approach
