<<<@Crellston<<<LancasterLad - didn't realise you were a Falklands Veteran! Did you ever come my ex boss, Admiral Sir Jeremy Black? The just plain Captain Black, commander of HMS Invincible back then. An interesting character!!>>>
He passed away this morning, aged 83. |
Thanks for the thought LL. Yes, just read the obituary in today's Times. Very sad, a great character and a genuinely nice gentleman. I worked with him for several years and spent many happy hours listening to his tales. Did a lot of good works. One of the last times I saw him was when we attended a charity dinner at the House of Commons when he was patron of a organisation that tried to help youngsters get back on the rails using fishing as an outlet. He will be missed by a lot of people.

Nearly 5 years ago Admiral Black was stood on The Round Tower at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour. HMS INVINCIBLE was making her sad final exit to go some Knackers Yard in Izmir. He was heard to say "The Royal Navy has gone to Pot!"
Excellent article from the Daily Mail at the time... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...scrapyard.html RIP sir. [Sorry to all for posting on the Asia Forum, but I thought it'd be the easiest way to reach Crellston]. |
RIP sir. Our condolences to family and all of his friends.

Thank you HT.
LL - I heard him say far worse about the demise of our Navy! |
