Flying FireFly

The GOOD news is that they are inexpensive, staff was pleasant, and they did take-off on time.

The BAD news is they cancelled our flight without any notification and didn’t even seem to be sorry about it! Thank goodness, we asked the E&O staff to confirm the flight the day before our departure (and we had confirmed before we left for vacation). Imagine our surprise and disappointment when we found out it was cancelled and we had no flight to get us to Koh Samui. I guess it was better than finding out the next morning at the airport. We spent the next several hours of our last day in Penang working on getting another flight. Turned out we had to leave that evening rather than spend one more night in Penang at the E&O (which was already paid for). We spent the night at a hotel in KL (additional spending) so we could catch the only flight available early the next AM. This totally ruined our last day/night in Penang. Lesson Learned: ALWAYS confirm your flights days in advance!

I would like to commend the staff at the E&O hotel. They were exceptionally helpful to us. They also told us that if we had booked through the hotel directly, they would have pro-rated the daily rate of our room because we had to leave at 5 PM. They are a class act!

It turned out the Holiday Inn Glenmarie hotel near the Subang Airport (SZB) was the nicest Holiday Inn we have ever stayed in. It was a welcomed surprise at the end of a crummy day.

We also had a great experience with the staff at the E & O due to the Bangkok airport closure in November. Glad to hear it wasn't a one off.
Sorry to hear about your experience with FF. Ours was fantastic, on time cheap etc, but i had heard they could be un-reliable.

We also had a problem flying w/firefly. They didn't notify our flight cancellation from Langkawi to Penang. We found out at the airport and couldn't get a flight out for next few days, good thing there is ferry option, not too thrilled taking the ferry but we had to continue on with our trip itinierary. The ferry was quite smelly of gas but it got us to our destination.

This seems to be a habit with Malaysian airlines. Berjaya changed my flight from Singapore to Tioman from 12:00 to 3:00 without notifying me.

This is not good news. We have booked a penang to phuket flight for next month. There are only 1 flight a day. I am hoping they do not pull this crap on us. What do they do for cancellations? Merely refund you your fare?

Thankfully, FireFly DID book us on new flights with no additional fees. It was a day earlier than we would have liked with more hassles, but we got to where we wanted and needed to go. I recommend you stay on top of your reservations -- have your hotel call them to confirm DAYS in advance vs. just checking online with their site. GOOD LUCK!!
