Flower Arranging in Kyoto
I am a photographer who photographs flowers in forms that tell stories. My images are printed on handmade Japanese rice paper. I am traveling to Japan next April and would enjoy a session with a skilled flower arranger and perhaps have time to photograph the results. Any ideas?

It looks like you might be able to arrange something in Tokyo:

You might want to contact the headquarters of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society in Kyoto. http://www.ikenobo.jp/english/index.html A major exhibition of arrangements by masters is supposed to be held in mid April 2015 at the headquarters, which includes the historic Rokkakudo temple.

I did get in touch with the Ikebana Society in Kyoto and had a wonderful day with a most charming young woman who is an Ikebana master. Thank you for the suggestion. Ikebana is a lot more than meets the eye..everything has a meaning, from the placement of flowers to the choice of flowers...

Thanks for coming back and telling us about it.

r - Just checked back on Fodor's and see you visited the Ikebana Ikenobo HQ - so glad you enjoyed your visit there! I, too, was in Kyoto in mid-April and took a lesson at the HQ one morning, and came back the next day to see the exhibition - it was fabulous!
