Floods In Thailand
 

Any information from anyone regarding the floods in Thailand would be appreciated; particularly the situation in Bangkok. I'll be there in a weeks time and would like more info on how it's affecting the city...

hanuman told me yesterday that there really is no problem and he lives right on a river in bangkok, not the CP however..

tong told me that the roads near to her house outside of bkk are closed...

it always floods at this time of year, especially north of bkk along the CP river...

i am leaving tuesday for bkk and plan to go forward as usual. i will be staying on the river in bkk as i always do...some times there are sandbags around a bit and maybe some water around the piers which usually is dry, but they have planks for you to walk on...

There was some confusion about Thailand's main airport closing, which it has not, only the old, smaller, "second" airport, Don Muang. Please note:

BANGKOK’S SUVARNABHUMI AIRPORT OPEN AND OPERATING NORMALLY, DON MUEANG AIRPORT CLOSED

Bangkok is served by two airports. Suvarnabhumi Airport, the main gateway to Thailand with 120 international and domestic airlines, remains open. It is operating normally and handling around 76 flights per hour including all scheduled international arrivals and departures.

Suvarnabhumi Airport is also the main connector for international visitor arrivals to transfer to and from domestic flights serving tourist destinations throughout Thailand such as Phuket, Chiang Mai and Surat Thani. All domestic flights are also operating as per usual.

Don Mueang Airport, the old international airport located about 30 km northeast of Suvarnabhumi Airport, is closed until November 1 st due to flooding . The two domestic airlines operating from Don Mueang, which are Nok Air and Orient Thai Airlines, have temporarily switched their operations to Suvarnabhumi Airport .

i am on soi 55, sukhumvit and it is dry here as was soi 4.. it seems very quiet around town.

Are the grocery and convenience stores restocked with water and food essentials? thank you

Not in many parts of Bangkok and surrounding areas, Susanne.

It's best to fly in and out of the capital as quickly as possible at this time.

If you do that, you can still have a great trip, since the flooding is not affecting most major destinations like Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Koh Samui, etc.

Or travel around Isan, the rural northeast of the country, which is wonderful.

Postpone Bangkok for now is the best advice.

Is the Bangkapi area affected? I have planned to book an overnight at a hotel in the area (Grand Fourwings) before flying out to Phuket in the morning. Thank you
