Floods in North and Central Vietnam

I have commented on a few posts recently where people are planning trips to Vietnam in October and November so this may well be pertinent for a few of those people.

Typhoon Khanun has recently hit northern Vietnam causing widespread flooding primarily in Hoa Binh and Yen Bai provinces (guess who is/was headed to Yen Bai next week!). Apparently there have been over 40 deaths so far, hundreds of homes destroyed and rail and roads swept away, including apparently the line to Sapa. Ninh Binh apparently is also affected by the rising river levels.

Forewarned is forearmed so anyone travelling to North and Central Vietnam or considering travelling in the near future might like to keep an eye on the developing situation as apparently there is more bad weather to come.

Agree! You should change your plan on the day when the storm is hitting North of VN.

Helpful info. Thank you. Looks like we need to wait and see. I saw you on TripAdvisor. What is your plan b?

The VN portion of trip is our plan b after we cancelled Myanmar.

There is no plan b at the moment! We will just wait and see. According to our operator Yen Bai is out but Ha Giang could be ok. Just depends how the storm develops. More rain expected on Tuesday!

Apparently Mai Chau is ok but not sure about Ninh Bin.

How sad for the Vietnamese people who have lost lives and those who will be affected by the loss of income in the tourist regions. We loved our time in Sapa.
