floating markets
Which floating market is the one to go to? Wat Sai floating market or the one at Damnoen Saduak. DS seems much further away and a hassle to visit with limited time, can anyone say that they're similar, or that it doesn't matter which I go to? Thanks. Yes, leaving today and still up doing last minute research...there will be plenty of time to sleep on the plane!

dameoen is the best....the only one i would consider....you have to allow 1/2 minimum for a trip there and back to bkk....we went on a blitz on our first visit, leaving bkk at 0830 and back by 1...

I agree with, Bob. I found that market interesting and great for photo shoots. Happy Travels!

We were at a floating market 5-6 years ago but unfiortunately cannot remember which one.
Guenmai: If you have gone more than once did you see much change over past 5-6 years? If so, which one? If we leave the Peninsula Hotel at 8-8:15 AM (we prefer not going at 7 which I have read is recommended) will we get caught in traffic with our guide/driver getting out of Bangkok? Should we go on a floating boats once there and for how long? Does the guide do along or just wait for you? What is the cost of one of the nicer canoe-type boat for 2 persons for 1+/- hour on the water? Thanks. |
Damnoen Saduak is the one to go to but I feel it is only worth while if you get there by around 8:30 and leave by around 11. That way you have a chance of being there before all the tour buses and it's more "real".

i hate early mornings!!! but i made an exception for going to the floating market and was glad that i did..
getting there by 8:30 is really nice as you beat the busses and other group travel....you will see the place get going for its morning activities and be leaving there when most are arriving... we paid about 300-400 B as i remember for a small boat....walk through the sheds to the back along the bigger cananls to hire the boat....many people will ask you as you walk along...take them if the price is right...its worth the money to be down in it and not just observe from shore... no it is not a question of traffic, of which we saw very little, it is a question of seeing things early and fresh... go early to avoid the hoards... |
What time must I leave the Peninsula Hotel to get to the market by 8:30-8:45? I assume from above all the boats are basically the same. I would obviously spend an extra 100+BAHT if it makes any difference.
Thanks. |
