Floating Market with a one year old
 

Can I visit the floating market with an active one year old (there are 4 adults in my group). Do we have to take a water taxi to see it - or can we see it from land?
Please help.

We visited when our daughter was just over 3. We took a boat. You can see it from land, but just a bit, and the experience is such that I wouldn't go without getting into a boat. There are shops and restaurants in an area along the shore, but the more interesting parts of the market IMO were away from that area, reachable only by boat. Also consider that the ride down there from Bangkok is well over an hour by car. Really, depends on you, your child, your wants...

the market is easily seen from land and in fact that is the way most people see it....there is lots of easy access...

your child will not be a problem for you at all...you will have to carry her/him...

However, the whole point of the floating market is that the vendors float and so do you. It's much more fun when you are in a boat and your boat lady steers you over to the things you find interesting. You taste a bit of this and that from the floating "restaurants," you bargain for a trinket or two. Pleasant way to spend a morning. If I had to just watch it from the shore, I would feel I was missing the party, especially if I had to lug a child with me, while dodging busy vendors.
If I was taking an active one year old in a boat, I would make sure an adult had a good grip on him at all times....maybe park him between your knees while in the boat.

I agree. If you only watch it from land I think it's a waste of time.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll leave my daughter with my husband in Bangkok. He has been to the floating market. That way I can enjoy the market in peace!
