Flights from BKK to Indonesia? Siem Reap?

Hello

I just booked a flight to Bangkok, arriving Sept. 6 and leaving Oct. 2. I wish to visit Siem Reap, Cambodia as well as parts of Indonesia (probably Lombok and Bali, perhaps elsewhere), but the agent who sold me my ticket advised me to purchase tickets to these places AFTER I arrive in Bangkok, where they will be cheaper.

Is this good advice?

How much do tickets from Bangkok to Siem Reap and to those areas of Indonesia usually run?

Where is the best place to purchase such tickets in Bangkok? (I don't wish to spend much of my vacation time making travel arrangements..)

Thanks for any advice.

Sean

Your agent is right. Fares are cheaper to buy in Bangkok. The normal fare from BKK to SR is around 280US return with Bangkok Air. You could get your ticket at the airport when you arrive. Ask if there are any specials. A travel agent there will charge you the same going price.

!? US$280 to Siem Reap ?!

That's nearly half the cost of my ticket from San Francisco to BKK... And Siem Reap is so close to Bangkok. I hope they have a better deal than that; otherwise the scope of my trip might have to shrink quite a bit.

Thanks

Sean

Sean
You can check the price and timetable from Bangkok Airways from bkkair.co.th, because it is monopolised so the price is high like the previous post.
Another option would be flying in to Phanom Penh which may be cheaper, THAI and bkkair have double daily flights for this destination, you can check timetable from www.thaiair.com, and you can book the ticket online, you can check for Denpasar for Bali as well from THAI.
You may have to check for Royal Air Combodge, the national carrier of Cambodia, it may offer cheaper fare.
Consider travel on train from bkk to the border, and then get train to PhanomPenh? but there is no railink to Siem reap from PNH.

Welcome to asia.

I just came back from Thailand and Cambodia. I flew from Bangkok to Siem Reap on Bangkok Air. I bought my ticket in Bangkok from a travel agent. It cost $240US round-trip. The flight is expensive because you are flying into one of the wonders of the world - Angkor Wat. If you're pressed for time, there is no better or cheaper way to get there.

An option to flying is a bus/boat/bus to Phnom Penh and then either flying (55US one way) or fast boat (25US) to Siem Reap. This ia the trip. Take the 11.30 night bus from Bangkok arriving Trat at 3.30 in the morning. Minibus to bordertown of Ban Hut Lek(leaves 5.45 and takes 1 hour). Border opens 7AM. Local taxi to point opposite Koh Kong (10min)> Boat across river to pier in time to catch boat to Sihanoukville leaving at 8AM. Arrive around noon and catch A/C bus to PP (best road in Cambodia) arriving 3PM. Stay overnight and then take plane or boat to SR. Total cost of trip 862B or 22US. The only tricky part is making the boat after crossing the border as you have no time to spare. You could stay overnight in KK. There is a casino resort and rooms only 500B. PP is worth a day to see the sights
The only other land route is through Porpet(train from Bangkok) and then a 8-10hr ride (if you are lucky) in a pickup truck and over the worst roads immaginable to SR. Their are no trains from the border.
