Flights directly from KL to Northern Thailand or KL to BKK?

Hi: Thanks so much for all of the help so far. Haven't been able to find out from the guide books if we can fly directly from KL to Northern Thai and/or Bangkok or would we have to fly or train back to Singapore? Thanks for the help.

Johanna:

No you will have to fly KL to Bangkok and then connect to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai (That is if I presume correctly that you meant Northern Thailand).

You can take the overnight train, make sure that you book the express train from Bangkok which leaves in the evening to Singapore.

KL is the hub for Malaysia Air so has excellent connections all over SE Asia. Flights to Bangkok are frequent and cheap. Check their website for details.

Don't forget the low cost carriers as well - Air Asia also has KL and BKK as its bases and currently has 3 flights a day between the two at very low fares. www.airasia.com

No direct flights from KL to Nothern Thailand, you need to go via Bangkok. There are plenty of flights between KL and Bangkok with Thai, Malaysia, Air Asia, Gulf Air, Lufthansa etc. Domestic within Thailand there are 3 budget carriers, Thai Air Asia, Nok Air and One-Two-Go plus Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways regular flights.
Note that if you want to get straight from KL to Chiang Mai if you fly with Thai from KL they can thru-book you and your baggage and you transfer at BKK and pass Customs and Immigration in Chiang Mai, if you use other carriers such as Air Asia you clear customs etc in Bangkok and then you transfer to Domestic terminal for connecting domestic flight.
